Just back from Costa Maya

We were at Costa Maya last week. We spent an hour at the main pier shopping and seeing the dancers. One of our group had her hair braided ($15) and one got a temp. tattoo ($20). Then we boarded a bus ($5 each) that took us to Majahual. You don't have to reserve the bus, just walk up and pay your money, as it runs to town every half hour. We spent the afternoon on the beach in front of a small restaurant (don't know the name, but they all pretty much have the same things). We had a table with umbrella and loungers were available. Our group purchased several Coronas and 2 Cokes, all of which were fine. We even used the limes in the Coronas, against our better judgement, but no one suffered any ill effects.

Later in the day, we hopped a cab back to the pier ($2 each), which were readily available. There we swam in the pool, purchased drinks at the swim up bar, and listened to the music. It was a beautiful day, sunny and around 85 degrees. It was a little humid (76%) from what our group was used to, but the locals assured us it was not bad by their standards.

All in all, a good day was had by all. For those who say Costa Maya is a bad port stop, I say do a little research so you know what to expect. It was a very economical and enjoyable day for our party.

Was just there this week also, and all I saw to get you back to the port area was a taxi, but, they run constantly and we had no problems getting back. We were not overly impressed with the beach. It was okay, but, not nearly as beautiful as Paradise Beach in Cozumel. It was a unique experience to see the town though.

Yes they bus you there in big groups, presumably because everyone herds off the ship in bunches. But then you take a taxi back at your leisure, as everyone doesn't leave at the same time. Still, $5 round trip seemed reasonable to me, as opposed to a $30-60 excursion to do basically the same thing!
