Colts88 Posted January 23, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2009 Is it sufficient to just get the travel insurance provided by carnival? What would just getting that insurance cover? Thanks so much for your blog and posts.I've learned so much!
crusinmama06 Posted January 23, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2009 I don't trust the cruise line insurance anymore. I get insurance that covers the entire trip from the minute we leave home on the flight to the cruise and then the flight back. You would have to read the Carnival policy to see exactly what it covers but I can tell you some things that most don't cover. If you don't buy your air through Carnival (or any cruise line), then the flights aren't covered. Which doesn't sound like that big of a problem until the child gets sick and isn't cleared to fly home after the cruise. :( So we paid for the "non-cancellable" tickets through US Air to begin with. Then we had to pay for the NEW tickets (times 5 because we took the kids aunt with us). All this billed to our credit card while my daughter was at the hospital. Hotel after the cruise if someone is too sick to fly home - we paid it out of our own pocket. Medical bills onboard the cruise - we paid them on a credit card before we left. Then we submitted it to the cruise insurance. I can't tell you if they actually reimbursed any of it. Medical bills after the cruise - was covered by our home insurance. But we did get a bill for $500 for the ambulance. So there is more not covered than covered. Get your own trip insurance. And read it carefully. You can compare rates at http://www.insuremytrip.com
