Amsterdam in Alaska

Our first cruise will be this coming Summer and wondering if anyone that has taken the Amsterdam for the Alaska cruise would care to share some tips about the Excursions and the Ship itself. Thanks for your input.

TiggerG--Welcome to Cruise Critic!

We have sailed on the Amsterdam 3 times for a total of 40 days, most recently last May to Alaska. We are going to be on her again this coming May for another Alaska cruise. She is one of most favorite ships--very elegant and comfortable. She is a co-flagship of the HAL fleet so she is kept in tip-top shape.

There are many good excursions available in Alaska, both with HAL and with private operators. Our favorites have been the Misty Fjords tour from Ketchikan; the Pilot's Choice Helicopter Glacier Excursion and the Whale Watching & Wildlife Excursion from Juneau; and the raptor center and Whale Watching & Wildlife Excursions from Sitka. Victoria is just fun to walk around.

 

Suggestions: for more excursion recommendations, post over on the Alaska sub-forum within the Ports of Call forum here on Cruise Critic--there will be ton of information and suggestions over there. With respect to the Amsterdam, come on over to the HAL board within the Cruise Lines forum. There you will find lots of Amsterdam "veterans" who will be glad to share their experiences and answer your specific questions.

I have to laugh at myself. Every time I see your topic I think, "Silly person, Amsterdam is in Holland, not Alaska." :)
