j-9 Posted January 31, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2009 Go look at the west coast departures board. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=413 Lots of advice about which areas and hotels are good, and how to get the best price by bidding. Wish I had found the board before I booked MY hotel...
carontori Posted January 31, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 31, 2009 We stay at the Crowne Plaza, booked it on priceline for $75.00. Nice, clean rooms, good service.
iTinKso Posted February 1, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 1, 2009 We do the stay and cruise package at Crowne Plaza. Last month it was $199 for night and parking in the garage for the duration of our cruise. Once you are parked, by valet, the Crowne Plaza will shuttle you wherever you need to go free of charge! JaiJaiW Posted February 1, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 1, 2009 Pre cruise we stayed at Sunrise San Pedro. It was an acceptable family friendly hotel with friendly staff. Was booked as part of our airfare. Free shuttle to pier the morning we left for our cruise. Post cruise we stayed at Crowne Plaza for 69.00 through Priceline.com. Nice hotel. Picked us up at cruiseport and brought us to the hotel free of charge. Shuttle will run within 5 miles of hotel for free.

petalpalz Posted February 1, 2009 #8 Share Posted February 1, 2009 We did the $199 park-and-sail package at the Crowne Plaza, as mentioned above. A nothing special breakfast buffet was included, a small bottle of wine, and valet parking for the duration of the cruise (covered parking). There are less expensive hotels but the convenience seemed worth it for us... and the room was just lovely. The shuttle was free and the return shuttle was just as easy. (remodeling is going on near the breakfast buffet but it didn't bother us) Watching our ship sail into port the morning of our sailing from the hotel window added to the pre-trip excitement. The mexican restaurant across the street had great margaritas and excellent food. OH.. and there is a Starbucks RIGHT around the corner from the hotel... had one coming and going. :)
NEW 2 CRUISIN Posted February 1, 2009 #9 Share Posted February 1, 2009 I, too, can highly recommend the CROWNE PLAZA! Great location and within walking distance of restaurants and shopping. Had a great stay there and enjoyed waling around the waterfront the day before the cruise. Also, skip the hotel food and walk over to Grinders for a terrific breakfast! ENJOY! :)

THE best Philly Cheese sandwich and AWESOME onion rings (they call them "strings") Excellent food at a great price. Grinders shares a parking lot with Sunrise San Pedro Hotel in case you need the location.

BIG_Steve Posted February 1, 2009 #12 Share Posted February 1, 2009 Make sure you pick a place that someone here, who has stayed at recently, recommends. When I moved away from that area there were some dangerous neighborhoods. Of course, that was 11 years ago. Hopefully it's changed. Still, I wouldn't pick a place at random.
