bmacri Posted February 16, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Between the airport and the cruise port, is there a good place to buy wine? Do the grocery stores in California sell it? How about tomorrow, a holiday?
neecee23 Posted February 16, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Wine and liquor is sold everyday in California in grocery stores, liquor stores, convenience stores and drug stores such as CVS or Rite Aid.
Splinter Posted February 16, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2009 There is nothing between the pier and the airport except parking, water, the runway and the County Administration building. You can check in at the ship and then walk a few blocks to the Rite Aid drug store that is on the corner of Kettner and Ash. They will have mostly jug and box type wine. You can also take a pedi-cab or regular cab to the Ralph's supermarket between 1st and 2nd and G and Market streets, or to the Cost Plus World Market (which you could also take the San Diego Trolley to, getting off at the second Convention Center stop). It is at 372 4th Ave. The small market in the Holiday Inn on the Bay also has some wine, but a very limited selection. If you have the time, you might want to take a cab to the Trader Joe's at Liberty Station (west of the airport). All of these stores are open tomorrow. The only restriction on liquor or wine sales is that there are no sales between 2AM and 6AM...otherwise most groceries, drug stores, and convenience stores sell without restrictions. jennbill Posted February 16, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Find a taxi and go to Trader Joe's. There are two reasonably close to the airport and pier. We went to the one in Point Loma. Grab some bottles of Two Buck Chuck (Charles Shaw) for 1.99. You'll be very happy with the quality especially when thinking how much you're saving versus the onboard prices. Trader Joe's also has many very nice selections in the five to ten dollar range. Well worth the cab fare. Enjoy your cruise, it will be great. Drifting Happily Posted February 18, 2009 #7 Share Posted February 18, 2009 It's probably The Wine Bank at 363 5th Ave. Their website is sdwinebank.com.
