kimchee1212 Posted February 16, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2009 I just booked an Alaska cruise on June 20th making stops/apperance in... Skagway Tracy Arm Fjord Ketchikan Juneau Victoria I had been reading that several cruises missed out on some of these ports/scenic areas. Is it likely that I will be able to go to all of these ports and get a full experience toward the end of June?
LENORA516 Posted February 16, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2009 It is rare that a port is missed on an Alaskan cruise. Most often missed ports occur on Caribbean ports due to storms, rough seas, high winds etc.
paul929207 Posted February 16, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2009 We have been on two Alaskan cruises and did not miss a port on either.
spongerob Posted February 16, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Victoria can be a bit iffy early in the season. The entrance to Tracy Arm is very narrow and might not be attempted if the weather is poor. Missing ports can happen any time or anywhere if the weather conditions don't permit safe docking or tendering.
DanJ Posted February 16, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Friends of ours missed Victoria last summer because there was another ship in the way, and it was decided tendering wasn't worth it for the short time they would be there. At least that was the excuse given. They just dropped anchor long enough for the authorities to stamp the paperwork to count it as an official foreign port of call and then left. mii Posted February 16, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2009 I have been to Alaska a number of times and have not missed a port yet. Now as one poster mentioned the sailing up the Tracy Arm Fjord is beautiful but seeing the glacier up close maybe a problem due to the ice in the water but the sailing of that fjord is still spectacular. Enjoy alaska. Marilyn
GloriaF Posted February 16, 2009 #7 Share Posted February 16, 2009 The scenery is so spectacular in Alaska, that ports are not so important.
