What is in teen room and does it cost to use facilities?

Hi,

I am wondering what activities are available in the teen room on Pacific Dawn. Are there playstations or xbox's and is there a charge to use them?

Also, will teenagers be allowed into the nightclub area at night? (mine will be 15 and nearly 17).

Are there other areas my teenagers may not be allowed? I realise they are still young but my eldest is old enough to be out in the workforce, will she be treated as a child?

Australian laws generally prevail, children are children until 18, no casino and the children can be in bars etc. under the supervision of an adult but generally must leave by a certain time in the evening. Similar to licensed clubs in Australia.

She's lucky it could be US laws in which case it would be 21 and I was married by then!

I am sure some of the others can give you a more exact answer.

They will have a great time in any case.

They wont be allowed in the Dome after 10:30, as it becomes an adults only area. And they can only pass through the casino (sometimes have to walk through to get to the upper seating of the showlounge or to the internet cafe and library) but not stay.

All kids who are under 18 will have a red cruise card, whereas 18+ people have a blue one, thats how staff will be able to tell them apart. If they see someone in the Dome after 10:30 with a red card they'll be asked to leave.

Other than that, there's not too much difference for the teens. They can still order drinks on their cruise cards (non alcoholic) without parents and can spend money how they want on board.

As for the teen club, Turtle Cove, I dont know much about it, they get a seperate newsletter delivered to the cabin along with the Pacific Daily. I know there are playstation comps and stuff, I dont think there are charges but I cant confirm it. I know that they do playstation challenges in the dome some afternoons and its free.

Hope that helps at all!

I haven't been on Pacific Dawn, but my friends and there family have.

They where 15 (my age) and loved it.

Everyone seems to sort of avoid the teen lounge (Soon to be renamed "Teen HQ") because they think it will be some lame, kiddie club.

But acctually its loads of fun.

They have:

-PS2

-Pizza Nights

-Tavelnt Comps

Just fun htings like that.

It's a great place for your kids to get to know the other peopel on board.

It is 100% free, except for some activites which may cost money, but the cost is generally very low.

Have a great time.

:D:D

When we were on the Pacific Dawn, last October school holidays the kids in the teen club were not allowed to be out wandering the ship. They had to be with a parent or in the teen club. The bad thing was, no drinks were allowed in the teen club so it meant they had nothing to drink either.

They also had to wear a bracelet "at all times" to show they should be in the teen club.

Saying that my nearly 16 year old daughter loved it but said it was better on the sun princess where they could even go and sit in the pizza place and order pizza free and socialise there.

Just make sure they go on the first night as that is when people meet each other and form their groups.

Are you certain on this.

I have been told by a lot of teens, that it is "Shark Shack" which is for 6-12 year olds, that can not leave with out parental permission, I'm pretty sure, Teens are allowed to leave as they please.

Do you really think, that 20 or 30, 16 year olds would stay in a room and wait for there parents to come pick them up,

highly unlikely.

Our experience with this last year on Pacific Dawn, outside of school holidays, was that the kids in teen lounge could come and go as they pleased. There were no bracelets then (in May) but these may only be used in school holidays or perhaps the staff had changed since then and maybe changed the rules. Our daughter was 14 at the time and loved it , it gave her the opportunity to meet others and while she was mostly happy to be involved in the activities (she said most of them were fun), she could also leave and do her own thing if she wanted to. The regulated freedom and responsibility was a positive experience for both her and her parents. We leave again in 2 weeks for a longer cruise and I'm hoping it will be as good for her this time. The teen lounge was open till 1am, and we negotiated the curfew for her on a daily basis depending on the days activities and other things - ie if she was late one night the next would be much earlier. This negotiating kept us all happy, and she quickly learned the rules from home still applied while on holidays! Usually after about 11pm it was just a movie in the lounge, and the youth security kept an eye on them. Rarely was she that late, they are really tired out and the attraction of staying up late night after night quickly wore off !!

Good luck and have fun

Jo

My 18yo son went on PD in January with 6 friends. One of them was only 17. We joked around with him afew times before they went, saying that he'd be in teen lounge when the rest of them were nightclubbing:p. A few days before the end of the cruise, he decided to try the teen lounge & really enjoyed it. No bracelets and he was allowed in the showroom etc with the other boys.

My first cruise I was in the teen lounge (just under 18 ) and the playstation etc was free.. the only thing we had to pay for was jewellery making, and the first set of earrings were free newayz.. We had bracelets but they weren't to let ppl know u must be in teen lounge, they were to let teen lounge know u had permission of ur parents to be there in the first place (you have to signa form in the first few days otherwise they cant attend) and I just put it on ym lanyard so it didnt get water damaged or lost.. we had control of the oz nightclub (this was Pacific Sun) until 11pm when we were kicked out and the over 18s came in.. by that stage there was usually a movie showing in the atlantis lounge for the teens.. Im sure something similar is provided on the Dawn im not sure as I was over 18 at the time

Which part of my post do you think I am not certain about.

I agree teens could come and go as they please, I did not say they had to be signed out. They just could not "loiter" and just sit around and talk, they were ushered off by security staff.

As several other Ccers who were on the same cruise but did not have teens can attest, my daughter is very quiet and not rebellious so was not running around wild.

The bracelets were the first and only time we had seen them. Yes as Sundance mentioned they were to let the staff know you had permission to be there and parents had signed the waiver not that you HAD to be there as my post suggests, sorry bad wording there on my part
