Fishing Guides in Mahahual

We are going to be in Mahahual the week of December 12 on the Grand Pricess. My wife and I would like to know if anyone has any experience hiring a guide and bishing for bonefish and tarpon in the area. Any recommendations or comments on making arrangements without going through the boat tours?
