Hey I am going on the mariner in june and was wondering if it is true they have a 1a.m. curfew now? I have cruised on royal caribbean many times before and they have never had this. And if they do when did it start?-thanks

That's what I was told; However, on my last cruise, some of the people we met informed us that the AO stays open until the last kid leaves.

Our kid (and her friend) didn't stay until the end, so we don't know for sure whether it is true or not.

I am bumping your post to the top, hoping others can help. icon_wink.gif

Curfew is posted for 1am. And mostly carried out for the kids that are just roaming the halls carrying on, I have seen they leave the kids alone that are just sitting chatting quietly and not bothering anyone.

I would think there is not much going on on the ship at 1am for those kids anyways.

What an excellent idea! More cruiselines should pay attention to this.

Perhaps something else in the works as well. Watch this space.

The reason for the curfew is very simple. Once all the activities are finished for the day, cruise lines have found that no curfew is an invitation to trouble. Not that all kids are going to be a problem, but in all my cruises (34) I've found that most serious problems with unsupervised kids generally start after midnight. Don't forget, being on a ship is just like being in any big city and bad things can happen. Just ask any number of young teen girls that have been assaulted on cruise ships.

I was on Navigator last Aug (I think there was suppose to be a curfew). Three nights in a row around 2 am there was knocking on my door. One time when I opened there was a 14 year old girl trying to get in her ? room. She was drunk. A member of the crew came when called. She was trying to get in the wrong room. Her parents were awakend and they were more mad at having to get up then they were about their daughter beening drunk and making trouble for someone (her vacation). They did not even say sorry to me or anyone else. I blamed the parents for this. The door knocking when the kids were caught were aged 12-16. There were six kids involved from 4 families. Mob thing was blamed kids normally good etc. Three of the kids were 16 and according to parents were allowed out because they were good kids at home and it was their vacation.

This is a hot topic. I never had a problem on Princess althought I know one family had to leave the ship because their teen (18) created a problem (stole a camera).

Now having said that, yes, adults can and are just as bad drunk too. But the ship seems to find it easier to deal with a drunk adult then a kid. For one they can put the drunk in jail without a lot of problems. They also kick off adults far easier then a whole family. No one wants a family stranded in a strange country but one adult who cares he/she was a problem but not now and won't make press the way a family would. ??????? Cruise Line stranded the Smith family consisting of mom, dad, junior (12) Betty (10) and sis (3)on Jamica because the 12 year old knock on doors/drunk/stole??? National headlines/bad press.

Well I am 16 (almost 17) and i have been on over 30 cruises which is a lot for my age. I was wondering where you saw the information about a curfew? Because I have not once read anything about it nor has anyone mentioned it to me. My friend was on the Mariner about 2 weeks ago and he had no curfew...

I am pretty sure that the curfew is in effect during high peak times with lots of kids onboard. While on the VOyager we only had 35 kids under the age of 18 and it was posted in the daily Compass. I dont think they announced it. Ask your friend to check the compass.

We cruised on RCI in August 2003 with our 3 daughters. There was a curfew which was fine with us. All but one was in bed way before then to be active the next morning. All teen activities close down, so what does anyone need to be out later than 1:00 am for?

We just discussed this on the Princess board. (No curfew there.) I don't see why teens have to be confined to their cabin at curfew. But, I do think they should be confined to their adult escorts (wherever they may be) at curfew.

May I ask what your curfew is at home?

My 16 (who turns 17 just 6 weeks before you) year old has a curfew of 11:00 pm, partly because of the driving laws where he is not allowed out driving after 11:00 and mostly because there is no reason for him to be out any later (unless he is with a supervised group, late movie, etc.). Only troubles after midnight and your parents should see to it that you are safe at home or on the ship!

If you will post your e-mail, I will send you a copy of the RCCL Cruise Compass with the curfew listed.

YOUR vacation? Are you paying for it? It would seem to me that it is your parents vacation and they are nice enough to bring you along. That being said, I feel that it is up to your parents to decide your curfew. If they say 3am, then that's fine, but they should also be held accountable for your actions, should you cause any problems.

I'll be taking my sons who will be ages 14 & 16 along on our next cruise, and I promise you, they will have a curfew, whether or not there is one shipwide.

News Flash - You're not the only one on vacation. Everyone deserves a good time, and if ANYONE is disturbing passengers and crew after 1:00 a.m., damaging property, openly drunk or disorderly, etc., RCCL is well within their rights to haul them back to their cabin, kick them off the ship, charge them for damages, whatever. Their ship - their rules.

If you don't like it, then spend your $$ on another line. But then, I'm reasonably confident that you're not paying for YOUR vacation anyway.

I think a teen curfew is a GREAT idea--there's absolutely no reason for under-18s to be roaming the ship without adult supervision after the teen group activities have ended for the night, and LOTS of reasons why they shouldn't be! That's just my humble opinion, but you can be sure the teenagers cruising with me next month will have a curfew, even if RCCL doesn't enforce one...

sorry...i kind of beg to differ with some of the adults onboard...i think the selective enforcement of the curfew...leaving alone the quiet kids, while enforcing it for the "rowdy" ones, works. Bottom line, we should be responsible for our children...whether they be infants, toddlers, or teens. And if they are disruptive...then it doesn't matter to me whether the disruptive passenger is a teen, or an adult.... if the passenger is disturbing others, then the cruise line personnel will, and should, become involved. A loud obnoxious drunk knocking on my cabin door at 2am is no different to me than a loud obnoxious teen. If you want to set a curfew for your child...fine...and if your child deserves the reward of staying out late on their vacation...that is fine too...as long as they, and you, are willing to take responsibility for their actions. Oh...and btw...cruised last summer on the navigator with my wife and 20 yr old (almost 21) daughter...and while neither of them had curfews, we did ask my daughter to let us know where she'd be, and when to expect her back in the cabin..

I did resent the curfew my wife set for me! icon_biggrin.gif

I think a curfew of whatever time the teen club closes is an excellent idea, unless the minor is accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. I have an older teenager (18) and he still has a curfew, both at home and on vacation. He lives under my roof, he follows my rules. End of story.

I have a soon to 17 year old boy (within days). His curfew is well before 1:00 a.m. at home...but we did give him a 2:00 a.m. curfew on the ship.

I just got off the 4/25 Mariner, and there was no curfew. We didnt even see that many teens hanging out, and the ones we did see were just hanging out. There was so many old people on the ship the curfew could have been set for 9pm and everything would still be quiet.

I think it really depends on what time of year a curfew is needed. Some times - like BigMike's cruise when there aren't as many teenagers on board there really doesn't need to be one enforced. Other times like Spring Break.. it's definately needed.

When there are large groups of teens, you will see much more "challenging" activities going on.

As far as Jen87's and lack of home curfew. It makes sense why you are objecting the idea. I can say as a mother who survived 3 teenagers, those that do not have the discipline at home and are given boundaries are more likely to run into trouble and not care about the consequences. It really bothers me that I've run into SOME teens on a cruise that are downright disrespectful. If they had consequences, I think the amount of trouble that occurs would be very small.

I must have fuddy-duddy teens. The two we took with us on our cruise last year were in bed asleep by midnight every night! They were asleep before that on most nights. They were exhausted from all the activities we did during the day.

Midnight was the curfew we set for them, but like I said, most nights they turned in before that. (They were 15 and 16 at the time.)

I agree that my kids are my responsibility, not the responsibility of the cruise line or its staff. Just b/c I'm on a ship doesn't make me feel as if my kids can roam all night.

The thought of drunk teenagers on the OPEN SEA scares the you know what out of me!
