Where to stay in Buenos Aires?

I was just on the Carnival Splendor. We boarded in BA. We also stayed at the BS AS Hilton for three days prior to the cruise. Although a little pricy, it was the best place to stay, great facility and very secure. The Coast Guard is guarding that area with guards in every corner.

We are looking for a reasonably priced pre cruise hotel in Buenos Aires for next January. Are there any recommendations? Do any hotels offer airport pick up? Shuttles to the cruise terminal? Thanks

What is your price range?

We stayed at the Reino del Plato just two blocks from the Plaza del Mayo and Florida Street and paid $125 including the 21% room tax. The rooms are small by US standards but clean and well-kept. Use kayak to find the cheapest rate and book through a booking agency rather than directly with the hotel.

Hotels do offer airport pick up but check prices. Sometimes it is just cheaper to take a cab.

Check out the Arts Suites in Recoleta. It is an aparthotel, which is what we usually stay in for our pre and post cruise visits, because there is more space at usually a lesser cost. A one bedroom 473 sq. ft. apartment with living room, dining area and kitchen costs $145 per night if paid in cash, and $160 is using a credit card.

A two bedroom, 2 bath, 903 sq. ft. apartment goes for $242 using a credit card, and $220 paying with cash. Their website is: www.artsuites.com.ar .

Good luck.

We stayed at the Wilton for 3 nights in late March. Not fancy but clean, safe + great location. Paid $75US night/modest breakfast included. They arranged airport pick-up for $39US. Would stay there again.

January is the high tourist season for Buenos Aires. It is is summer vacation time, especially around Christmas and New Years, so prices at the same hotels are going to be higher.

Also I just read that the Dakar Rally is returning to Buenos Aires on January 2, 2010. We ran into this when we were trying to book our rooms for 2009. The rally is scheduled to start from BA on January 2 and to finish there on January 17.

A wonderful place to stay is Miravida Soho in Palermo Soho. This is a charming and delightful boutique hotel within walking distance to lots of restaurants and beautiful parks. In fact we were able to walk to the finish line of the Dakar Rally - it was so exciting to be there.

Miravida made reservations for everything we wanted - restaurants, Tango show, etc. Their help made our time in BA so wonderful because they took care of so many details. The price is reasonable too. You can read the great reviews on Trip Advisor.:)

We stayed at the TRYP Hotel San Martin & Lavalle one block from Calle Florida, on March 27 and 28 .

The room was very spacious , modern and very well maintain , bathroom had no tub but a very large 2-3 person shower . Building is about 8 years old, excellant security, doorman kept the front lobby door always locked, needed your room key card to activated the elevators.

Very reasonable rate paid $118.00USD per nite breakfast included, 12:00pm check out, has only 62 rooms they have 2 suites and was only $50.00 more, very highly rated on Tripadvisor ( no negatives) they are part of the Solmelia chain Resort and Spa of Spain.

Taxi to the Cruise ship port was only $15.00 Peso including tip ( fare was approx $12.00 peso)

Hotel did not offer EZE airport pickup.

We also stayed at the Tryp Buenos Aires in February. Excellent location and rooms. It's on a city street, no views (if you care about that).

A good, reasonable restaurant (La Posada de 1820) is one block away on the corner of San Martin and Tucuman.

Check the solmelia.com site for reservations. We got a "special" with 4 pm checkout.

Very good breakfast. They will make capuccinos or lattes on request - no charge.

Helpful desk. They made us reservations for Cabaña las Lilas, called us taxis, etc.

The guide book in the room is very good with suggested walking tours and maps. We used it to do our own walking tours in BA.

Also, we left our luggage there while we went to Iguazu.

Highly recomended.
