questions about future bookings on board

cruising on Mercury in April and wondering about the following:

1) how many "discounts" will the booking agent accept for future cruises? Can someone use the one-category upgrade from CC, the coupon from the magazine and still get an on-board credit all for the same cruise?

2) have read about others who always pre-book the longest cruise they can find- at least 12 days. Then, even if they later switch dates or switch to a shorter cruise, they will still get the same on-board credit as long as the booking number remains the same. Has anyone out there done this?

Thanks for your input.

I think they will accept all the upgrades and coupons you get to them.

The first is the cabin upgrade at time of booking.

Plus the ship board credit you get for the cruise.

Then when you switch the booking over to your TA they can apply the coupon from the magazine.

Part two i'm not so sure about.

The TA can answer that one.
