Boytjie Posted April 21, 2009 #26 Share Posted April 21, 2009 I have to check the price... I have a VF with our friends next-door to us... Not a guarantee. I have to go on the HAL site to see what the difference is... I'm not sure it's worth it for a little more space. Is your VF on Deck 4? If so the balcony railing will be solid steel and not plexi glass but I think the balcony sizes are about the same as the VD balconies n 4. JLJS_NY Posted April 21, 2009 #27 Share Posted April 21, 2009 I have one of the VFs on Deck 5 (above the lifeboats). I didn't book one of the Deck 4 VFs because I heard there was that solid steel rail. After checking the HAL site - there seems to be no VD's available that accomodate 4 people (DH, 2-DSs and myself). The price diff for the next available isn't really worth it to us... Think I will keep my cabin (for now). Thanks for the info Boytjie!! :)
katjef Posted April 22, 2009 #28 Share Posted April 22, 2009 Laura, I think we are all checking out the same cabins! We started with a VF on deck 5, but ended up letting that one go, so we could get 3 rooms the same deck, deck 4 - now we have a VD. We'll have to compare rooms and values when we get on the ship. Our TA has arranged a group on that sailing. Kate I have one of the VFs on Deck 5 (above the lifeboats). I didn't book one of the Deck 4 VFs because I heard there was that solid steel rail. coho ken Posted April 23, 2009 #29 Share Posted April 23, 2009 Yes, we had a teak lounger with pad (although it was narrower than ones in public deck areas), two chairs, and an ottoman. We were near aft like Boytjie picture, in cabin 4161. If you plan on spending an afternoon or two relaxing on the balcony like my wife did the extra money for VD is worth it in my opinion. If you do not plan on using the balcony very much, I would not worry about it and use the $$ towards an excursion or give to the casino.
lilirose66 Posted June 2, 2010 #30 Share Posted June 2, 2010 We were just in 5053 on the Eurodam last week - I believe the setup is similar to the Westerdam. We were extremely grateful to have the plexiglass versus the solid metal. The balcony was small but still big enough for 2 chairs, a foot stool and small table. It also kind of elbowed out at a 135 degree angle so you could actually look back at the cabins towards the aft and this small part of the balcony would get more sun. The balcony did look down at a bigger balcony on deck 4 and the life boat was in front of the balcony next door. I actually thought we got a better view of the water than the neighboring balconies directly over the life boats. Hi would like to know if cabin v5053 was noisy? Just in front I think there is a door for staff. We once had that kind of cabin and all the staff were working in front of us. thanks
RuthC Posted June 2, 2010 #31 Share Posted June 2, 2010 Lilirose, Odiesam has not posted on the HAL board for over a year (as this thread is more than a year old), so is unlikely to see your question and respond.

VermeulT Posted June 3, 2010 #33 Share Posted June 3, 2010 This was an insanely helpful thread. Thank you. I'm looking at a VF on the Eurodam and now might upgrade to a VD on deck 4. This is why I love Cruise Critic!!
Rare kazu Posted August 8, 2010 #34 Share Posted August 8, 2010 :)If your balcony is large enough, you can also request a lounger. We saw a few people do this on the last cruise. :):)
CHOPPERTESTER Posted August 10, 2010 #35 Share Posted August 10, 2010 We just booked (directly with HAL)on Noordam last night for a 3 Dec cruise. VF guarantee was available but we asked what was the next category up to be able to pick our cabin. The VDs were $60 more pp. What surprised us was that 4164 was still available so we grabbed it. Same thing happened to us last Feb when we booked our Spirit Hawaii cruise as cabin 7258 was still available. Neither of these cabins were available on line at the HAL or Carnival sites. It pays to call in directly. Also the HAL on line site was quoting $220 pp more than what we were quoted on the phone.
