Dunn's River Falls excursion with young children

From another thread it seemed that the climbing of the Falls may be a challenge for young children ( ages 6 & 7) so I was needing some more info on the alternatives of using the stairs and/or staying at the beach. Do you enter and leave the falls from the base where I assume the beach is located?

The entrance from the parking lot is at the top. You go down to the bottom where the beach is and climb from there. You then exit at the top of the falls when you are done. There are several points you can get out of the water if you want along the way so if the children attempt it and can't keep on you can get out at your pace. Depending on their strength, aptitude etc, you will know if they can handle it. I would at least give it a shot and would have when my son was 7 if we had the chance.
