Switching to Carnival - RCCL pricing is crazy.

If a $3.95 charge for room service after midnight, which includes the tip, is that big of a deal, you dont need to be cruising.

Lines are more similar than not in most ways. I also disagree that the two lines appeal to two types of people. I cruise on both, so both lines must have some appeal to me, even if I prefer RCL because Iv had better service on RCL and the ships are prettier.

I agree with this except on service. Service has been good for us on cruises on both lines (10 on CCL, 3 on RCI).

Strangely enough we had wonderful cruises on Ecstasy, again this past Jan on Ecstasy, loved the CD, and our cabin steward came and introduced himself the first day, couldnt have been happier.

Got on Conquest May 3rd, fingers crossed after the service and communication issues, and loved our waiter, Carnival always comes thru food wise and in the dining room, but we had issues all week with our cabin steward to the point I was tempted to reduce tips and it takes a lot to get me to do that. Talked to the guy all week, even single night. No hangers in one closet, he made up my sister's bed with only one pillow, by the time we got hangers (3rd call), after midnight we gave up. My sister had broken her shoulder that morning before boarding  so she really really needed her pillows, which we finally got the next day.

All week long our cabin wasnt being made up until about 10 pm?? Talked to him more sternly on Wednesday, thought he got it, Thursday, again cabin not turned down, turned out we had changed to early dining (which we requested but got late, so changed to early), and it was my responsibility to tell the cabin steward??? Carnival doesnt pass on the message and me talking to him night after night wasnt getting thru to him? Its my fault he isnt doing our cabin because his list says we are supposed to eat late, how could he know just because I had a talk with him that Im having issues with him not doing turn down earlier at night?? He says to me for all he knows, it was just the one night (never mind he didnt do it the night before either.) I finally on Friday went to the purser's desk to complain about not getting our cabin cleaned OR turn down at night. I also put it on comments, everyone was good except for our cabin steward.

is it really my fault he didnt make up the cabin for 2 people?? he cant see there are 2 people and I should have to ask for both beds to have 2 pillows and hangers in both closets, he said last week was only one person, so?? (he had a excuse for everything, nothing was his fault).

Conquest twice Iv just had lousy service. I dont think I am responsible and the guy should have not had to be talked to about not turning down our cabin until so late more than once.

If something like this happens to me, the second time, I talk to the head steward (if I know who he or she is) or the purser's desk if I don't.

No manager is psychic, whether on a cruise ship, a hotel, or any business. If dissatisfied customers don't let them know about a problem, they can't fix it.

I too am just dying to pull the trigger and book Carnival. We are looking at the Valor over Thanksgiving. Much better price than I can get on RCI. What's keeping me from doing it? Fear of all the reviews I've heard - not about food, not about service, not about cabins, it's the smoke! No offense to anyone, and I am not a picky person - but I really can't handle the smoke. I can avoid the casino, but I hear it is bad in every public room.

I'm not a smoker either, but other than the casino, I never smelled smoke in any of the public areas or my cabin on my last Carnival cruise. I do admit to staying out of the casino because the smoke was just too strong.

I have sailed Carnival and RCI- love them both and am happy to sail either one. If you are tempted to book the Valor, then I'd go for it, I really don't think you will notice any smoke odor

It sounds like maybe you had a bad [or overworked] room steward. It sounds like the rest of your trip was good.

No it's not your fault. I agree, this is not good service, so your comments about service are correct for you. I only commented that DW and I have had good service on both lines and to us neither has been different.

Sure we have had issues (minor) on each, but not enough to impact our cruise.

Regardless of cost, why go on a cruise line who puts a surcharge on for room service? It used to be at no extra charge except for what you wanted to tip. How about paying a surcharge after all the thousands of dollars you pay for the cruise? I've payed plenty for cruises. I don't like RCCL's way of putting on surcharge after surcharge. However, for other reasons I don't cruise on that line anymore.

Ok so you don't sail RCCL.........but since you asked the question as to why go on a cruiseline who charges for room service after midnight.......well for me because it does not concern me....the only time I order room service is in the morning for coffee:D

What other surcharges other than after midnight room service (I have never ordered from room service) and one kind of steak (I dont like beef, prefer seafood or about anything else, never ordered a steak on any cruise I can remember). You talk about them as if there are tons of them? I use my free coupon for once at Johnny Rockets, even though we mostly eat the onion rings, we did split a hamburger we didnt finish last time.

If you wouldnt book with them again over two surcharges, thats your decision, but they dont affect me, so why would I care?

It varies a lot....you can find good deals on either line, if you do your homework, and are a little flexible.

We just booked a RCL cruise, but switched to a Carnival cruise during the same week, so that we could go with friends. The RCL cruise was under $60/person/night, while the Carnival was nearly $100/person/night. So in this case, RCL was much cheaper than Carnival for the same type of cabin.

Search around, and you will find the deals on either line.
