Boarding time NOS out of Miami

Recommended Posts

It is always a good idea to fly in the day before. With flights, anything can happen. We know people who were tied up in the blackout last summer and missed their Alaska cruise. You can book a room on Priceline at an excellant hotel for $35-$40 and unless you buy your insurance to include your flights or buy the cruise through the cruise line, you are on your own if you miss the ship.

As for boarding, they tell you something like 2PM but in reality you can board about 11AM. It depends one how fast they clear the ship. We were among the first there and had to wait on line inside the building a total for 30-45 minutes and were among the first on the ship. While waiting they provided water, lemonade and coffee---free.

Trip from the airport is Port of Miami is about 15-20 minutes and is a flat rate taxi charge of $21 for up to 5 people.

As for how late you can board, I would say 4-4:30, but I wouldn't even think of such a foolish move.

Yes you can get van taxis. You just take the next one in line. The 5 people statement is from the airport web site (http://www.miami-airport.com/html/taxi_and_shuttle_service.html)and is also the Miami-Dade regulations as to what they can charge and the max they can take. We actually only had 4 to put in each cab, the size of each of our children's families. Yes, there are van taxis and they hold 5. All you do is ask for the next van taxi in line or if ordering by phone request a van taxi. We used 4 van taxis from the pier to the airport because of 4 people per family plus all the luggage.

The ride from the airport is 7 miles and yes the trip depends on traffic. Our trips from both the Embassey Suites at the airport to the ship and from the ship back to the airport were all in the 15-20 minute range.

Remember the trip is flat rate $21(today's price). Make sure you pay no more. You can keep current on the flat rate price on the web site link above.
