Adie87 Posted May 25, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2009 I wanted to give you all a heads up regarding our experience in Key West on May 12, 2009, the second day of our 5-night Enchantment of the Seas voyage. Do not rent from Sunshine Rentals! Below is a copy of the letter I emailed as soon as we returned from the ship. I never heard anything from them. Just a warning! **************** We will not be recommending you . . . ....after our scooter rental experience today. We rented from the Duval/Caroline Street location. My friend had trouble getting her scooter started. Just as the employee asked "do you want another one", he (your employee) managed to get it started. Silly us, we should have taken one that turned over immediately. Less than an hour later we were parked in a meter spot across from the Butterfly Conservatory. She could not get it started again. She tried several times, repeating all the steps your employee had shown her. IT WOULD NOT START. We put money in the meter to last until you could retrieve it, and we came immediately back to your place to report it. They gave us a new one and we were on the way, without one word about a recovery fee. Upon returning we learned that we were to be charged a $50 retrieval fee and that we would have to pay a $25 meter expired charge, even though we had put money in the meter. If your people would have gotten down there in reasonable time they would easily have been able to get it. We were told "it started right up" which I do not believe. If we could start it, why in God's name would we wasted all this time??? We were told that "the number is all over the scooter, we should have called." But that was not an instruction we were given at rental and when we returned it it was 11:45 and we were heading to a meeting at noon. We were not going to waste our small amount of our time in Key West waiting for you. We were also later told "I gave you a different one" meaning that the one we had trouble starting had been exchanged already. BOLD FACED FALSEHOOD. So the rental was around $63, but the "retrieval fee" (which, again, it was not our fault it took them so long to come and get it) was $50 and the ticket was $25. We find this the worst kind of customer service and laziness. We plan to post this exact letter on Cruise Critic as well as any Women's Week message board we can find. We also will likely report you to the Better Business Bureau, as we are also small business owners in Fort Lauderdale and would never treat a customer this way. trvelinman Posted May 26, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 26, 2009 arent there 2 sides to every story? I have seen this type of posts before on forums come to find out the poster was in the wrong. maybe instead of someone trying to push others to "follow" their story about any company they should do their own research and form their own opinion. and the administrators of this board should do the same. We dont know who this poster is, so who is to say they are being truthful?

You joined CC today just to post (a couple of times) that there is probably another side of the story?? In reading the original post there are a number of things that I would have done differently that may have prevented some or all of the problems. Others who read the post should benefit from the experiences of the OP. If I were the suspicious type I would almost think that you were someone from Sunshine trying to do a bit of damage control. And, if someone from Sunshine is reading, I would suggest that they do the right thing. In my mind that would be waiving the recovery fee. The parking fine should be on the renter IMHO. But Sunshine should provide a copy of the ticket with the amount listed. You joined right after emailing me and threatening with a lawsuit. Go back to sunshine and let them know how to run a business with the customer in mind. 98Charlie Posted May 26, 2009 #5 Share Posted May 26, 2009 How simple it would have been to just take care of the customer in the first place and avoid having the bad press. Charlie
Wickerdick Posted May 29, 2009 #6 Share Posted May 29, 2009 I rented a 6 seater electric car through Sunshine Rentals to see the island 3 weeks prior to our cruise for $225 per day. When we got off the ship we found Adventure Rentals 305.293.8883 for $139 per day. We also found A&M 305.896.0607 to be $160 per day. We had battery problems and they wasted 1 hour of our day changing cars. Save yourself $100 and go with Adventure. The excursion was fun but the service from Mark the owner was not what I could have gotten elsewhere. I have these other quotes written down that I can send. Work on your customer service Mark.
