BTW Thanks for your GREAT "Live from" thread about your trip! I loved reading it! We're not even planning a TA cruise but I copied your final post with all of the tours and descriptions and have saved it! You never know.....;)

I learned so much from Cruise Critic, I always feel like I own this group that gives so much so I try to post live threads whenever I can. If I can help you then it is worth it!

The Crown is my favorite. When I sailed on her she was pretty new. Ship was clean, staff was great, and the food was amazing.

Good to hear, I am booked on the Crown next year!

Even though I love both the Caribbean and Crown Princesses, my heart belongs to RUBY! I've sailed her twice already and have another planned for November. The crew is wonderful (I am also a Generoso fan!) and I love the aft balconies on Riviera Deck! Can't wait to sail her again.

It used to be the Coral Princess. After going on that ship a second time, I realized it really bugged me the way the HC and gym/spa are opposite of the Grand Class ships.

Now my favorite is the Diamond Princess. Love having the big aft deck with two pools!! :)

Oh do tell, why do you love the Riviera aft balconies? Are they larger? Covered?

I have only been on the CROWN and CARIBBEAN.

Loved the Crown because it seemed somewhat more intimate.

Caribbean was nice, but the theater and casino seemed awfully small.

The best part of that ship was Sanctuary.

My heart says CROWN but I love Sanctuary and I am not certain

that ship has it yet.

Did you get these two confused? Because the Crown has always had the Sanctuary -- it had it first. The CB only just had it added.

I have to say that, as someone else said, I like bits and pieces of them all (Vista Lounge, Adagio, wrap-around Promenade, etc.), but so far my favourite remains the original Island.: plenty of open deck space, lots of lounges for a ship its size, and two pools (as opposed to the one tiny one on the R ships). Otherwise, I guess my favourite is the one I've been on most recently!

We've been on the Sun and the Diamond and enjoyed both but our very favourite is the wonderful Pacific Princess. Pacific Princess used to sail out of Sydney over our spring/summer but was replaced in 2007 by Sun initially and also Dawn Princess. There were a lot of very sad cruisers when Pacific departed our shores.

I liked it for the same reasons others have liked the small ships but also IMO it feels more like being at sea (I love sea days though) and it's also able to dock at places the larger ones can't. fFor example, in Noumea it can dock at the passenger terminal, whereas the larger ships need to dock at the cargo terminal. Also there is no hassle whatsoever in places which require use of ship's tenders (a lot of the smaller islands in the Pacific don't have facilities for ships so you need to use the tenders).

Sigh.....any cruise is wonderful though.

No confusion. Read my original post again. I stated I was not

certain. I had no idea that the Crown always had Sanctuary. Was

on it about 3-4 years ago and never noticed it. Good to hear it is there.

Having sailed on most of the Princess ship classes, I would have to say there isn't one that I don't like. :)

So the best is the one we are on.

There are elements which make one ship or the other nicer, but a single all around favorite is difficult to name. I think Island Princess has the best combination of the features we like.

Elements:

  • Front to back access - Island Princess with both Deck 6 and 7 access is superior
  • MUTS - love the new tiered seating on Emerald Princess
  • Promenade - Sun/Sea/Island Princess with full walkway on a single deck is great for exercise
  • Art Gallery - Grand/Emerald Princess with Plaza level galleries are most convenient for browsing.
  • Horizon seating - Pacific Princess II has covered outdoor seating aft on Deck 9, making lunches a real treat with a clear view.
  • Vista Lounge - any ship prior to Emerald/Ruby. hate the poles and TVs in Club Fusion. All that seating is a waste of space.
  • Balconies - Sun class ships with all covered balconies are our favorites. Also good are Aloha/Baja on other ships.

This sounds like the perfect ship, I hope Princess is reading this.

My favorite is Star Princess.

That alone would ensure we never cruised Princess again. Hate the Sun Class balconies. Bring on the Caribe on the Grand Class :)

Amelia,

I loved the convenience of Riviera Deck and loved the back of the ship. The cabins are the same size as the others, the balcony is half covered.

We walked out the back door to the pool, to Horizon Court - it was just so easy!

I would recommend the corner cabins only, since the two that are more towards the inside are a little too close the the back door (which sometimes slams closed) and also their balconies are less private (people standing at the aft rail can look over.)

We loved R751.

:) That's one of the things I love about the Island/Coral and the Sun Class ships... the Horizon Court is in the front! I like being able to sit at a table and watch what's in front of the ship.

The Star Princess - we did our very first cruise ever (our "we are going to give cruising a try and see if we like it" vacation) on The Star we were hooked and we have The Star to thank.

We have done three cruises on the Star since and we are always nostalgic during boarding. :D
