DFritz Posted May 6, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 6, 2004 There are several threads on this topic in the event you would like to do a search. Basically, RCI started a test program and they are charging a $3.95 cover charge to enter Johnny Rockets for a meal. This charge covers the gratuity but not beverages and their gratuity. All of the meals will still be free within this cover charge with as much as you want to order. One reason they instituted this change was due to the extremely long lines during certain times. PhoenixCruiser Posted May 6, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 6, 2004 Yes, currently it's $3.95 per person on the Mariner and Navigator. Brad1185 Posted May 6, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 6, 2004 This 8 week trial period is coming to an end, so we should know soon if its off to other cruise lines. It appears if you like to eat when cruising, RCI will not be a good choice, with RCI offering the same lunch menu daily, the same dinner menu daily, extra charges for JR and cookies. I have never seen the same menu at lunch or dinner in the dining room or the Windjammer on any RCCL ship. The selection of food has always been different at every meal. hershey555 Posted May 6, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 6, 2004 What do you mean by cookies? You have to pay for them now? Do you mean the ones you get in the Promenade Cafe?? I love those cookies. <http://escati.linkopp.net/cgi-bin/countdown.cgi?trgb=000000&srgb=00ff00&prgb=CD20CD&cdt=2003;07;29;08;00;00&timezone=GMT-0840>
pinkrosesdeb Posted May 6, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 6, 2004 I have never heard of them charging for cookies or anything else in the Promenade Cafe except the specialty coffees. We eat lunch in the dining room almost every cruise and the menu changes daily. The breakfast menu is pretty much the same, how many different things can you plan for breakfast? AdrieneAGD Posted May 6, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 6, 2004 Yeah, Brad, I think you're a little misinformed. As far as I know, the only things RCI charges for are Chops, Portofinos, JR's, specialty coffees in the Cafe, Ben and Jerry's, and most drinks other than water, tea, and lemonade (and juice at breakfast). And they do rotate their menus. mafig Posted May 6, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 6, 2004 There is a thread on this page that addresses the fact that Royal Caribbean is planning on having the same menu every day for lunch. The question seems to be if it is on their short itineraries only, if it's a test only, or what. Someone on that thread stated that it's soon to start on Navigator (not a short itinerary). It may be true, or may be rumor, we'll all find out soon. Unfortunately, it will probably come from posters returning from their cruises, not from an official Royal Caribbean announcement. If it is true, those poor first posters will have to deal with people saying "you're mistaken, I was on XXXX of the Seas, in 2002, and the menus changed every day!" FOXTROT Posted May 6, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 6, 2004 Rccl never charges for cookies. I will be the bad guy. On the Mariner in March during spring break, the service charge at JR was a pleasure to pay. The place was never crowded, we could get away from the kids. The staff had time to talk with us & great service. The lunch menus changed every day last week on the Grandeur. Dinner menu had some different things on different ships. Even the dreaded Ranch steak was very tasty & not tuff. Flame away!
