AmoMondo Posted June 13, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 13, 2009 Hi can anyone who has previously bought vaporetta passes, please tell me whether the 48 hour pass starts from the time in the day that you start using it and continues until you've had your 48 hours worth or is for just 2 complete days. The reason I ask is that we will not arrive until midday on our first day and will be leaving just after midday on out third, so would like to know if I'd be able to use it for all of out time there or not. Thanks
margbem Posted June 13, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 13, 2009 You buy your passes then have to put them into the yellow machines at the entrance to the vaparetto stops before you board. They become active only from the first verification in the machine, not from the moment you buy them. Remember to always put them through the machine before you board on every journey or you could be fined.
Bobal Posted June 13, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 13, 2009 From the time you first stamp it for 48 hours (or however long you choose - they have a number of options). Take a look at the website here http://www.actv.it/english/navigazione.php?pagina=tariffe_vaporetto
nparmelee Posted June 13, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 13, 2009 The ones you buy from veniceconnected.com are activated when you pick them up.

paulred Posted June 14, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 14, 2009 They sell passes for 12, 24 36 and 48 hourd. the time starts when you baord the first vaporetto. It is continuous. Here's the thing. If you are staying overnight in Venice, then a 48 hour continuos pass can be a good deal. However, if, like me, you are coming into Venice from the mainland each day, and leaving in early evening, then the continuos nature of the pass does you no good. It also sucks if you lose it half way through (trust me, it happens!). You may find arranging your timeing and buying 12 hour passes can be the better deal. tomko2 Posted June 15, 2009 #7 Share Posted June 15, 2009 Thanks for the link to the site. We are trying to figure out the best option for our overnight in August. Kathy:)
gtlovell Posted June 18, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 18, 2009 We bought 72 hour passes ahead of time and used them ONCE! :) We honestly thought we would use them more. It would have been cheaper for us to buy them when we got on a boat. We also bought the WC pass and NEVER used them. We made sure to use them at our hotel or museums.
