Wine question

What is the policy on Princess regarding bringing onboard wine to drink on balcony? If brought to the dining room what is the corkage fee on Princess? On our previous Holland America cruises we were allowed to bring any amount on. We brought 12 bottles of wine and enjoyed them on our balcony. A few we brought to the dining room. However, the corkage fee has been raised to $18.

Is there a limit to the number of bottles of wine a passenger can take onboard?

The Princess Cruise Answer book indicates 1 bottle per person.

Not sure how strict they are on that... some have mentioned taking more without problems.

The single bottle rule seems to have been subsumed by the passenger contract, which does not specify a limit. On our recent cruise, we had multiple bottles with no problems at all. Corkage remains $15 for the dining room; room service was happy to bring glasses for in-cabin consumption.

The Princess Contract gives NO LIMITS on the number of bottles of wine that a person may take on board. I have taken up to half a dozen for a long cruise.

During a port visit or brought on during embarkation you are allowed to bring wine and champagne on board. It can be consumed in restaurants or in staterooms. When brought to restaurants, a $15 corkage fee applies.

I was always under the impression that any alcohol (including wine/champagne) that was purchased during a port visit would be taken and held until the end of the cruise. Wine & champagne brought on at embarkation was OK. Can anyone clarify this???

We bought several bottles of Alcohol at port, which was collected at the gangway for safekeeping and delivered to our stateroom the night before disembarkation.

We asked if we could have two of the wine bottles to bring to dinner.

They said yes.

This is hit and miss. Depends on the port/manpower/ship etc. :)

This is exactly why we are switching from RCCL to Princess. If the ships had the kind of wine I like it would be ok, but they don't. On our last RCCL cruise they confiscated our 2 bottles of Maryland Wine that we love and didn't give them back. They also took the bottle of coffee syrup (Hazlenut) we always travel with.... That's when I swore I would never cruise with them again..... I lied though, since we still have ressies for the Oasis. :o But they are my new #1 choice just because I can bring on my favorite wine. And they in turn will get all my losing at the casino money!!

Ironically, I pack mine in my luggage or in my carryon, using a gadget I was introduced to in the Boutiques Onboard - the Wineskin - it's a bottle-shaped bubble-wrap-esque pouch with a liquid-tight seal - http://www.ftscontent.com has more details. They're $1.25 each onboard, a little more or a little less at retail, and hold glass shards and liquid in the event of bottle breakage. I haven't lost one yet. Before that, I just used large-bubble bubble wrap and a dot of tape, and usually put them in my hand-carry backpack.

We just had ours in our carry-on, Princess has no limit on the # of bottles, although it does say 1 bottle per person. Also the size of the bottle is not limited. We had people that would fill their wine glasses in their cabins and bring that to dinner. They don't know if you are bringing it from your cabin or from one of the bars.

bigmjh - yeah, I just bought a few more on the Sapphire a couple of weeks ago - they're an upgrade from the complimentary bubblewrap, and they sell them for $1.25 in a size that will handle a 1L bottle as well as most 750 mL wine bottles.

How do you folks carry it? Case? Luggage?

Thanks

Chris

On our last cruise we were traveling with 12 family members. I put a luggage tag on a case of wine, and checked it with my luggage at the dock. It was delivered to our room with our bags, no problems.

With anytime dining, does the table steward hold the partially empty bottle of wine for you for the next evening? I know this can be done with traditional dining, not sure with anytime.

Thank you,

Yes they will hold it for you, regardless. :)
