dmpuszcz Posted June 22, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2009 This is our first sailing with Celebrity. When cruising with RCCL you could ask at the port if there were any upgrades available. It was a set amount to upgrade from one category to another, for example from inside to outside was a couple hundred, from an outside to a balcony was a little more, etc. Does Celebrity do the same thing? If so, are they set rates to upgrade? Thanks for any info.
C 2 C Posted June 22, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 22, 2009 Yes, sometimes. We have been successful a couple of times but only on sailings that were not near full capacity. On the more popular runs the front office is very quick to say that the ship is sailing full. You have to arrive pretty early to get a chance at an upgrade. Many people who sail back to back are the first ones to find if certain categories are available. The rate varies by sailing. We've moved to the category of choice for between $350 and $600 for the cabin.

ajpack Posted June 23, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 23, 2009 On our very first Celebrity cruise they upgraded us from an inside to an outside. I have no idea how we got that upgrade! We are diamond on Royal Caribbean and have never gotten an upgrade...go figure.
kitty9 Posted June 23, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 23, 2009 Most of the time they offer an upsell, meaning they offer empty cabins but you pay the price difference between the cabin you paid for and the one you want. I personally saw this happening on our last cruise on Infinity last April where the two couples on either side of me at the Purser's desk inquired about moving to a Sky Suite from their CC cabin, but they had to pay the full difference in price. One elected to pay the upgrade and the other did not.
Fblack Posted June 23, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 23, 2009 Almost never at the pier anymore. If the ship has lots of open cabins, they may upgrade you for a fee at the front desk after you board. And not for free or for even a substantial discount. We are Elite passengers on Celebrity. We did a b2b last year and tried to upgrade after the first cruise, but they wanted to charge us the full brochure fare. No discount. Even with an empty cabin. So we did not move. richsea Posted June 23, 2009 #7 Share Posted June 23, 2009 Where do you go at the port to inquire? We've found that the best thing to do is go to guest relations as soon as you board & ask for an upgrade. If there is a possibility of an upgrade they will tell you & put your name on their list. After sailing, when they see the no shows they have, they contact you via voice mail.
szdiver Posted June 23, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 23, 2009 We have checked with the pier co-ordinator twice BEFORE actually checking in and twice we have upselled from a Royal Suite to the Penthouse for around $1000.00 total. A friend behind us got our RS for $600 total. So it can happen. Although this has been a year or so ago.
ISABELLA Posted June 23, 2009 #9 Share Posted June 23, 2009 On our last cruise, we asked a Pier Coordinator, like we were advised - she said ship is full, but suggested to check with guess relations. The minute we got on board that exactly what we did. They said, sailing is sold out and there is no upgrades. When I offered to pay for an upgrade, they said that they will let us know by the end of the day. About $400 got us a balcony upgrade from the inside room. I thought that was very reasonable for 2 weeks cruise.

You're very lucky because those PH's are usually never available and are usually the first to book. And $1000 for a suite that can run as high as $25,000 for two, is unheard of.
