Alaska Ports: What's There?

Hi

I remember from our last cruise that in most ports there were small markets and sometimes beauticians doing pedicures etc We are due to go on an Alaskan cruise shortly and wondered what are in the ports. I want to get a manicure and wondering whether I should pay the ship price or wait until in port and get it done there instead? We are visiting:

Ketchikan

Juneau

Skagway

Victoria, British Columbia

Thanks

You might want to post this over on the Ports of Call board for alaska. There are people on that forum who live there and maybe can help you. Or do a search in a particular town and say manicures. For example Ketchikan manicures

Personally, I'd get it done before I left home--but that's not what you asked.

If my only choices were on the ship or on port, I have it done on the ship so I didn't waste valuable port time having my nails done. There's so much to see and do in Alaska!

Hello,

You will likely not find a place to have your nails done in any of the ports mentioned ( at least not easily). Better to do before you leave or on the ship. ( in four visits to Alaska I don't recall seeing any beauty shops in the main areas we visited).

What you will find in most of the ports is plenty of jewlery shops and trinket shops that all seem to sell the same types of things: T-shirts, Ulus, Bar paw salad forks, hats etc.

I sometimes get pedicure or other services in port, especially if we've been there a few (too many) times. I would just google the city you are visiting and find the one most adjacent to the port. A quick search shows there is a place in town near the port called "Nail Jazz" in Juneau, for example.
