Poppy01 Posted July 4, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 4, 2009 Hi We be starting our cruise on Sea Princess (roundtrip San Francisco to Alaska) on the 13th of July on an outside unobstructed view cabin. We have decided that we would like to change to a balcony but our travel agent doesn't seem interested in giving us information on price etc. Also, as we went through a TA we have to do this via them. I was wondering or rather hoping that as we will be in San Francisco a few days before or cruise that we could perhaps go down to the cruise terminal and see if we are able to change then and perhaps at a better price than we would get here in the UK (we seem to pay higher prices that those in the US). Has anyone done this before and offer advice? Thanks
yyzatcqq Posted July 4, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 4, 2009 I would call your TA back and give them a piece of your mind. You are trying to spend more money, so they get more commission. Failing that I'd call Princess UK directly.
paul929207 Posted July 4, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 4, 2009 You need to do this in advance thru your TA. By the time you ge to SF, there will prbably be no balconies available.
cruiserdru Posted July 4, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 4, 2009 A mock booking a few minutes ago shows all balconies and all mini-suites are waitlisted for your 13 July cruise. :o Still, your TA should at least give you that info.

98Charlie Posted July 4, 2009 #7 Share Posted July 4, 2009 I just checked also. Looks like the ship is sold out. Every cabin category is waitlisted. Charlie
Colo Cruiser Posted July 4, 2009 #8 Share Posted July 4, 2009 No cabin upgrades will be available in San Fran. Get yourselves on a waitlist ASAP for a balcony.

fridaythecat.u.k. We have decided that we would like to change to a balcony but our travel agent doesn't seem interested in giving us information on price etc. Also, as we went through a TA we have to do this via them. Just a tip for the future... we had an issue with the flights for our cruise booked in August. We wanted to get them changed and as we had booked through a TA, went through them initially. After loads of hassle and time on phone, despite us being as flexible as we could, we got nowhere  So decided to call Princess UK direct - problem was resolved completely to our satisfaction within about 2 minutes! :D
donna5 Posted July 4, 2009 #12 Share Posted July 4, 2009 Poppy01 The cruise terminal in S.F. isn't like all the other terminals. It is an old building and there will only be Princess people there when when a ship is there. Also the line is normally outside and can get quite long. There is no where to sit. If you have anyone that cannot stand long try to make sure you go at a time when it isn't as busy. One time there were two ships there and they moved our boarding to a diff pier that didn't have a building and they had a huge tent set up. ave fun S.F. is one of my favorite cities. My husband never tires of riding the street cars.
LegalEagle2012 Posted July 4, 2009 #13 Share Posted July 4, 2009 Poppy - If you booked with a UK based TA and you wish to upgrade, assuming that a suitable cabin is available, you will be charged at the rate prevailing at the time that you made your original booking and not be able to take advantage of any late booking discounts that may be available now. Our cruise price went down by £600 a few months after we booked and so this made the next grade of cabin almost affordable for us. When our High Street TA called Princess UK they were given the above info. It would have been almost cheaper for us to cancel, lose our £500 deposit, and re-book. Hope you have some luck though!
