Tipping in Oz and NZ......

Recommended Posts

Thanks The_Big_M! That's what I meant. Sorry if this was unclear. I did mention if dining with 2, but can see how figures can be misinterpreted.

I see what you meant. Yes I would never tip that amount. Maybe $20 at the most and then the waiter would be grateful.

I was in NZ a couuple of years back and the taxi driver gave me the tip. The fare was around $10.30 and the driver said make it $10 and we are square! I smiled and gave him a 10, and we both left happy.

Most times in restaurants in Brisbane I will round the bill up to the nearest dollar, and that's the only tip.

Can anyone advise me on this in regards to dining? I have no idea whether tipping is the norm or is considered somewhat of an insult....

Thanks in advance, Lynda

In Aus it is appreciated but certainly not an insult. People expect that americans will tip because they are used to it.

We usually tip at restaurants but don't have to. Many people don't.

If in doubt, leave the gold and silver coins as a tip.
