RBAlbany Posted July 17, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2009 Is there any savings for paying cash for your drinks on board? If you charge it to your room you pay the 15%. If you pay cash can you than decide how much you want to tip each time, or does the price of the drink include the 15% up front?
Kimmer727 Posted July 17, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2009 You cannot pay cash on board ship. You must use your SeaPass card.
shushu Posted July 17, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 17, 2009 You don't pay cash anywhere on board. Everything will be charged to your board account with your cruise card. The 15% tip is automatically added. If you want to tip extra, it's only up to you
WeBeGone Posted July 17, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 17, 2009 You do not have the option of paying cash. There are no cash transactions on board except in the casino.
Toto2Kansas Posted July 17, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 17, 2009 Princess now has 'cashless cruising', every purchase onboard (except what is spent in the casino, although you can also charge casino play to your shipboard account) is charged to your shipboard account. There is no other option. And the 15% gratuity for any drinks purchased is 'added' to the price of the drink advertised, no way around it. The added 15% on drinks is not for charging it, it is a gratuity.
paul929207 Posted July 17, 2009 #6 Share Posted July 17, 2009 I don't knw who you are traveling with, but most cruise line only allow you to sign for purchases. If you wish to give an additional tip beyond the included 15%, the extra can be cash.

yyzatcqq Posted July 17, 2009 #10 Share Posted July 17, 2009 I agree no cash for onboard purchases. ;) I thought (and am 99% certain) that on the last day prior to disembarkation, you can pay cash for drinks at certain bars. Only a couple though. I think on my last sailing (23MAY Grand Princess) one of the pool bars was open on the last morning.

You can not bring "all you want":D you can bring one bottle per person upon embarkation from each port, you can usually come onboard with a couple of bottles per person but not " all you want." The Passage Contract does not specfiy ay limit on the number of bottles of wine you can carry on. It only says there is a $15 corkage fee if you drink one in a dining room. It seems they have taken the 'one bottle per person' stipulation out of the passenger contract now. So, watch and I am sure you will see some bringing cases of wine onboard soon. Which in turn will convince them to 'change the rules' again. :(
paul929207 Posted July 17, 2009 #22 Share Posted July 17, 2009 The Passage Contract only says the wine may be carried onboard. It does not specify any maximum. Of course there still could be some security officials who impose a maximum.

I received the March, 2009 revision of the Passage Contract for our cruise next week and it does not have the limit in it. A contract they mail out would take precedence over something on a website.
