New Travel Regulations

Does anyone know about the new travel identification regulation put into affect on 5/1/09 saying that your picture ID and your passport must have the exact name?

Yes. What is your question? If you to the US government passport site, this will be spelled out for you. It's pretty clear...as you said... your picture ID (most people use a driver's license) and your passport must have the exact same name

(although they will make allowances for small errors that are obviously typos, but if, for example, you are a woman and have recently married and one document has your maiden name and the other your married name, you need to get them to be consistent.)

There is also something about your airplane ticket being the exact same as your first and last name on the passport (some airlines can't put in middle names). I almost wasn't allowed to fly because I use my first initial rather than my first name.

Your passport and driver's license don't have to be the same because there would never be a case that you would have to show both. You will be using one or the other. The new rule states that your airline tickets have to exactly match whichever form of ID you are using to travel. If you are using your passport, make your plane and cruise reservations in that exact name.

Some of the airlines are still fixing their systems to match this new policy. Alaska Airlines for example does not have a place for a middle name. So for now at least make sure your first and last name exactly match whichever photo id you are going to use for your trip. Don't use nicknames, don't use initials.
