Fort Lauderdale - Port Everglades

route 66

Recommended Posts

Hi. We plan to hire a car and drop it off in Fort Lauderdale. Does anyone know if hire companies operate a shuttle to the port and if so who? Also any recommendations? I have spoke to one company and they said there is a shuttle but they could not find out the price. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I am a little confused perhaps because of slight differences in our language. Normally hiring a car in the US means hiring a company with a driver to transport you around. Renting a car is when you drive it yourself. Most of the rental car companies have shuttles to /from the port and/or the airport.

When we cruised into Ft Lauderdale (on our transatlantic late 2007), the major rental companies that have their rental counters inside the airport did not have their own shuttle buses. Instead, there was a large free shuttle run by either the county, port, or airport (not sure which) that stopped at the pier terminals and took you to the rental counter section of the airport terminal. No charge.

If you are renting a car and dropping off at the FT Lauderdale rental car area, then yes, most of the larger rental agencies have a free shuttle to the port and also from the port back to the rental agency. All of the major rentals are located on the airport grounds in a separate parking garage. We have used the service many times (ALamo, Hertz,Avis etc) and they all provide the shuttle. It is only about a 10 minute ride to Port Everglades.

Renting from Budget and dropping off at the Quay shopping center worked out great for us. They were pretty busy, and we like to get onboard asap so we called a cab. They have a shuttle, but with ships arriving and departing it can be a bit of a wait. We just get a bit anxious on sailing day.

Thank you for very much. I will look into Budget. Thanks for the suggestion.
