2+3Cruisers Posted August 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2009 I am trying to plan our day from Naples in September. What have others found regarding the shops in Sorrento and closing for siesta? Are they all/most/1/2/few closed for siesta? How about the restaurants? What time is the siesta observed? Also, have others had a good experience with shipping limoncello home? What was the cost to do so? Thanks in advance for the help!
CruisingGoddess Posted August 4, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2009 In another thread, someone said that shops are generally closed between 1-4 pm, except for really touristy ones.
firefall Posted August 5, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 5, 2009 Shop first...eat second. Last time we were there the shops closed up...zap...at 1:00pm. We then went to a nice cafe and had a relaxing lunch. Some others took the local bus around in the afternoon. We're going again (to Naples) and we will head to Sorrento (on the train) in the morning and head back to do Hurculenium in the afternoon.
Rare sandinmyshoes Posted August 5, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 5, 2009 I agree...in the most touristy areas the shops won't close or they will close for a shorter amount of time. Still a good idea to plan on eating and sightseeing between 1 and 3 to cover your bases. Have fun! We as Americans should adopt siestas as a part of our culture too! :D

CintiPam Posted August 5, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 5, 2009 Have fun! We as Americans should adopt siestas as a part of our culture too! :D Unfortunately, it is we Americans who are rapidly ruining the siesta culture of much of the rest of the world in this global economy!:)
