georoc01 Posted August 11, 2009 #51 Share Posted August 11, 2009 Its a tough call. You need to be able to change your plans last minute which isn't always easy. One time they called me the day before we were scheduled to board and we were already in port. So to turn around and spend a week in in Galveston really wouldn't be the same, even knowing we would have a free cruise three months later. Or this last time my boss simply wouldn't allow me to change to the dates of the updated cruise. So we probalby could have switched to a completely different itinerary, but after spending months planning on Alaska, to turn around and do the Caribbean again wouldn't have exactly been the same. We turned down the offer and had a great cruise.
BuzzF117 Posted August 11, 2009 #52 Share Posted August 11, 2009 If your offered the OBC and you take it while on your cruise can't you go into the casino and put your cruise card in the slot machine and "cash out" a large portion of i and then pull the handle one time then take it out of the machine and get the cash? LisaH Posted August 11, 2009 #53 Share Posted August 11, 2009 Hi everyone! So my soon-to-be-husband and I are taking our first cruise for our honeymoon on Aug 13th. I just got a notification from Princess about our cruise and I was wondering if the expert cruisers among us can tell me if this is standard practice - my impression is that they are trying to get people to switch from our cruise on the CB (from Brookyln) to another ship - the Island Princess departing Oct. 1. The notice states that those in category AA-AE on the CB have a great opportunity to move to the Island Princess departing Oct. 1. If they elect to do this, they get the 2nd passenger cruise fare free, upgrade to a full suite, they will cover air change fee up to $150 per person and any travel agencies involved will get $50. I was just curious as to why Princess would want to get people to switch from my cruise and onto another or is this just standard practice? Any ideas? Thanks everyone! We are not switching as this is our honeymoon, but I am ever so curious!:D It has happened to us twice, once we were able to take advantage of it and it was a GREAT deal. Second time we were not able to. It is usually a win-win situation when this happens and it works for you.
JulesNJ Posted August 11, 2009 Author #54 Share Posted August 11, 2009 Hi everyone! We are back from our wonderful wedding in Newport RI and we now have only one day left until our cruise! Woo hoo! We haven't received any more offers since my original post. We might get something later today or tomorrow - I will keep you all posted if we do. (Not that we will be taking the offers because we are both so amped to go on our honeymoon lol) Gerig! We must have drinks on the ship to celebrate your mom's 80th! Let's hope we bump into each other! Synet165 - I will say hi when I see you guys on the ship, considering you are in the cabin directly across from ours! So great to virtually meet you guys on here! So no more offers have come in as of yet, but I will keep you guys posted if that changes :)

Gay Cruiser Posted August 12, 2009 #57 Share Posted August 12, 2009 Go to the casino and take a cash advance against the OBC, pay the advance fee, and you are still ahead, if you don't put it in a slot machine!

Using the card in the slot machine means no "advance fee".
bubbie617 Posted August 13, 2009 #59 Share Posted August 13, 2009 I was telling DH about "moveover" offers to see how he felt about it. He commented that we may be likely recipients of a call because we booked our cabin when there was a special deal going and the current price is about $700 per person more than what we are paying - and the ship is totally waitlisted. If they need to bump someone, is it more likely that they will bump people like us - who have a very discounted price - to put in waiting list people who are willing to pay full price? DonnaK Posted August 13, 2009 #61 Share Posted August 13, 2009 Go to the casino and take a cash advance against the OBC, pay the advance fee, and you are still ahead, if you don't put it in a slot machine! The $2600 per cabin credit that we were given is REFUNDABLE, but only after we take the cruise we moved over to. It says this right on the invoice/reservation for the new cruise. So, there is no need for us to withdraw from the casino and pay the fee. We were told that the reason they issue it as a refundable OBC rather than an outright credit/refund is that they want to insure that we actually take the new cruise, otherwise it would be considered a cancelation instead of a moveover. Then there would be legal issues because we wouldn't have been charged a cancelation fee like others who canceled were charged.
