They are exactly the same it is simply location, location, location :D

But while the SY category is to be the lower of the two on the Vista Class it tends to be in a better area at least to what many feel. They corrected that for the Eurodam/Signature class ;)

On the Zuiderdam we had booked an SY cabin and HAL upgraded us to an SS. We rejected the upgrade because the SS cabins are on the deck below the Lido deck and we didn't want to deal with the possibility of the chairs being scraped around the deck in the middle of the night or any other noise associated with the Lido deck above.

We didn't see it as an upgrade because of that.

Ditto!!

Our SY was in a perfect location on deck 6, aft of the glass elevators.

IMHO, the SY is the better room. They are the same size and we've had both. The SY supposedly is in a worse location, but that is not necessarily the truth. It still depends on where you want to be. The SY is a few hundred dollars cheaper and I think its the better deal. We had a SY on our past two cruises and were very happy with the location of both on Deck 6 near the elevators. I think the SS rooms are all on Deck 8 just under the Lido. We've stayed there, too and it wasn't bad but you do hear the scraping occassionally.
