lizardhowson Posted August 1, 2004 #51 Share Posted August 1, 2004 Hi again everyone! Tybug...how many more days is it now??? LOL...:D Lizard....I have a son who is 23...so I guess that means I am in your age bracket!!!;) Here's a question...How formal is formal night??? I like to dress up for formal night and was wondering if most of the passenhgers do or don't on a 3 night cruise? My cabinmate has never been on a cruise before and he wants to know if a suit and tie are appropriate enough...any feedback??? And would anyone like to meet up at sailaway??? I think it would be fun! :D Have a great Sunday!!! I have only been on 1 previous cruise (7 day) and I wore a dark suit and tie for formal nite. As far as this 3 day cruise, I am taking 6 other people with my wife and I (my wife's sister and her husband, three of our 4 kids (2 sons, 1 daughter) and girlfriend of my daughter to share her cabin. We all decided to skip the formal attire for the 3 day cruise. Sorry, I don't have an answer.
cruise_girl_too Posted August 2, 2004 #52 Share Posted August 2, 2004 Ok Lizard....does that mean you will be dining in one of the alternate restaurants on formal night? I was hoping that maybe your small group, and tybugs' group, we could all meet before dinner for pre-dinner drinks....just a suggestion... Can anyone else tell me about formal night on a three night cruise??
Tybug Posted August 2, 2004 #53 Share Posted August 2, 2004 52 days to go!!! I agree, we should all meet up at sailaway. We are the goofy ones out there dancing and making fools of ourselves at sailaway. That's okay though, because it's vacation!:D Cruisegirl, a suit and tie is fine for formal on the 3 night cruise. In May, I don't recall any tuxes. It was mostly suits and dress pants/shirts. He'll be fine. I personally don't take the formal gown(s) on the 3 night cruises, only 7 nights or longer. So, just a nice dress or pant suit will work. I hope that helps! :)
icruz Posted August 2, 2004 #54 Share Posted August 2, 2004 Hi everyone...my DW and I are also on the Majesty doing a back-to-backer starting with the 9/24 3-niter...we have sailed the Majesty many times and love the idea of doing a 7 night cruise where we can visit Nassau and CocoCay twice in "one" cruise...we always go to the Wyndam Resort and Casino at cable beach while in Nassau (no fees to get in, great rockless beach, friendly casino, etc.)...in Key West, as with Stacy, we just walk from place to place shopping, eating and drinking (not much in terms of beaches here)...hope to see you all on board
cruise_girl_too Posted August 2, 2004 #55 Share Posted August 2, 2004 Welcome icruz!!! That's great that you are on a back to back!!! I hope we can all meet at sailaway!!! I know that tybugs is willing...how about you and your DW?????:D tybugs, I personally think that dancing and acting a little goofy are a great way to celebrate vacation!:D

apfra. Posted August 2, 2004 #58 Share Posted August 2, 2004 I'm just a little confused with regards to Stacey... no offense meant. I am sailing on Majesty in two weeks and I am expecting a pretty bad 3-night vacation. We sailed on Monarch and we hated it. I still like ships and this was convenient. So I will see for myself why this ship is so special becuase the crew is always changing to other ships. But since you live in OH, why would you fly all the way to Miami to spend 7-nights on this ship? There are new RCI ships with the same crew (many probably once worked on Majesty) that sail for 7-day cruises out of Miami. Just try it... I promise... you will like it so much more unless you are emotionaly attached to this ship for some reason.
cruise_girl_too Posted August 3, 2004 #59 Share Posted August 3, 2004 Good Morning! I am a little confused...why would anyone pay the money - any amount of money- to sail on a ship expecting to have a "pretty bad" vacation??? I am sailing on this ship knowing it is not a newer ship and doesn't have all the amenities of the newer ships, but I am sailing it because the price is right, it is sailing the days I have available to sail and because I would rather settle for a short cruise than none at all!:D Apfra, I really hope you will enjoy your cruise no matter what! It's 3 days on a ship away from the "real world"....!!!:D Now having said that, I can also understand someone's "preference" for a ship...I have sailed Century 4 times! It was my first ship and I liked the ship! I liked the service, the food, the ports and I became "comfortable" with the ship...sometimes I just want to really relax on a cruise and having been on the ship before, I don't feel as though I want to participate in everything going on, or checking out the different excursions, but just relax and not do anything if I don't want to! Does that make sense..sort of like a "been there done that" kind of thing...only I enjoy the service, the food, and I can do what I want when I want! Have a great day everyone!:D

reggierail Posted August 4, 2004 #62 Share Posted August 4, 2004 I've only been on the Majesty once, but it was a great cruise. The ship's just right, not too big or too small. I really like the layout of the ship and since my Majesty cruise, I've sailed 4 times on her sister the Monarch. Reggie

reggierail Posted August 5, 2004 #67 Share Posted August 5, 2004 Reggie...isn't it great when the ship is neither too big nor too small???....why don't you join us on the 24th????:D Reggie what was your experience with formal night??? The 70,000 something ships are just right by me. I like the Celebrity Mercury too, it's just a little bigger than the Majesty. Actually, I'm sailing the Rhapsody in October, the Monarch in December and January, The Mercury in March and Infinity in May. I'd say my card is pretty full, I've got to work sometime. Miami is so far from the left coast also, especially for a 3 or 4 day cruise. When I sailed the Majesty in 2002, I also sailed on the NCL Sea and did ship inspections on the Mercury and Norway. Formal night on the shorter cruises is a little more relaxed then on the 7 day or longer cruises. I actually did the alternative dining in the Windjammer on formal night and had wonderful meals and service. Reggie
