mostofus Posted October 31, 2011 #1851 Share Posted October 31, 2011 Is there anything fun to do in FT. Lauderdale for kids ages 11 & 14? We have just 2-3 hours to burn before we have to be at the airport to catch our flight home. We will just have eaten (hopefully) a big breakfast before we leave the ship in Miami, so we probably won't need a food stop before we go to the airport. Thanks! royalcruz Posted October 31, 2011 #1854 Share Posted October 31, 2011 I need an advice. We planning a B2B, since we need to fly out of LA so we are trying to save that way. I'm looking to stay 3 nights in FLL but due to the price of the cruise we may just do the cruise only. Is their is a way to take a city tour at the end of cruise 1. The cruise line only have tours that end at the air port and we need to get back to the ship. If not can we do something on our own to see a little bit of this beautiful city? I'm also thinking of the time we would need to spend to get off the ship since everyone will be leaving to go home. Thanks so much Lannie The airport is only a $10-15 cab ride from the ship so don't let that stop you from taking a planned tour.
royalcruz Posted October 31, 2011 #1855 Share Posted October 31, 2011 We are driving in on Friday (11/11) and boarding on Monday; planning to stay at the Homewood Airport (Dania Beach). Loking for suggestions on how to spend Saturday and Sunday - interested in boat tours and other things to do. Also any idea for light meals - will get plenty of food on the Zuiderdam. Thanks for keeping this thread. Some good eateries near the hotel are Rustic Inn and The Field. For boat tours look at Jungle Queen, Carrie B, and Water Taxi. royalcruz Posted October 31, 2011 #1856 Share Posted October 31, 2011 Royalcruz- You have been so helpful to us folks that do not reside in Fla but need questions answered and for that, we Thank you. Now for my personal question: How would you rate this Hotel: Fairfield Inn & Suites Fort lauderdale Airport ( owned and operated by Marriott) and their address is: 2081 Griffin Road, FLL Fla???...is this a nice Hotel?..are there restaurants/eateries to be able to walk to?..is it a safe area? We will be staying there prior to boarding the Oasis next spring. Thank you for your answer already :) The area is fine but not much around...you can walk to Rustic Inn or Islamorada Fish Co. but I don't know if there are any sidewalks. royalcruz Posted November 1, 2011 #1866 Share Posted November 1, 2011 (edited) Is alcohol sold at the local Publix and Winn Dixie stores? Did a google search and found both of them right off 17th st. right by route 5. Would like to stop and get snacks and drinks These grocery stores sell wine and beer but not hard liquor. There are a few liquor stores on 17th St. also, in the same area. There is also Total Wine and Liquor in the Harbor Shops by Publix and it is the nicest store in the area, with good wine prices/specials. I've lived here for 24 years and never heard of route 5, not sure what road that is! Note that on Sunday mornings you cannot purchase any alcohol in stores until noon. waterbugohio Posted November 1, 2011 #1867 Share Posted November 1, 2011 thanks for the info. Sorry for the confusion. The map I happened to be looking at showed route 5. Actually it is route 1 (with 5 maybe running with it or something)
OttawaCountess Posted November 1, 2011 #1868 Share Posted November 1, 2011 There are five different Sun Trolley routes. Three are Mon - Fri, and two are weekend. Weekend means Friday thru Monday. You will want the Fort Lauderdale Beach Line, which passes right in front of your hotel. If you want to go down Las Olas Blvd, then you would need to transfer to the Las Olas line by the intersection of Las Olas and A1A. Both of those are weekend routes. Thanks again for your input. Much appreciated!:D

Jkcyoung Posted November 2, 2011 #1870 Share Posted November 2, 2011 We are staying at the Bahia Mar pre-cruise next week. Any recommendations for breakfast within walking distance? There are 10 of us including 3 little boys, so casual is good.:)
Reader0108598 Posted November 2, 2011 #1871 Share Posted November 2, 2011 Right accross the marina is the Bahia Cabanna( Sp). You NEVER want to rent a room there but the food is good and on the cheaper side, locals eat there:). When you leave your hotel walk to your left go down past the fire station, it is there on a side street. Enjoy Fort Lauderdale:D Reader

newfirsttimer Posted November 2, 2011 #1873 Share Posted November 2, 2011 When we arrive back from our cruise in late January, we will have until 10pm when our flight leaves. Would you suggest renting a car and going to Sawgrass Mills or is there a local hotel that would have 'day rooms' where we could store our luggage and take a cab to the shops in town. Thanks for any help. We are staying at the Crowne Plaza pre cruise and I understand there is really nothing around there to walk to. Is it possible to walk to 17th street or would you recommend taking a cab to a nice, reasonably priced restaurant and if so, which one? Appreciate any assistance. polarman Posted November 2, 2011 #1874 Share Posted November 2, 2011 Royalcruz, Thanks for all the Fort Lauderdale info! :) Would like your opinion on the best choice between these two -HYATT place North or Renaissance. One night precruise 11/26. Thanks
royalcruz Posted November 2, 2011 #1875 Share Posted November 2, 2011 Royalcruz, Thanks for all the Fort Lauderdaleinfo! :) Would like your opinion on the best choice between these two -HYATT place North or Renaissance. One night precruise 11/26. Thanks Hyatt Place North has bigger rooms and free breakfast and free airport shuttle but the hotel is more basic and some of the reviews claim the A/C is noisy and that some rooms smell. It's a little bit closer to stores and more restaurants. It's 3*. Renaissance is a more elegant and is right across from the port and Walgreens and 2 decent restaurants, and gets good reviews. It's 4*.
