Bad Reviews From Cranky People

Realize that some people are just chronic complainers - this seems to be what makes them happy.

We once sat at a lunch table with a single elderly man and he complained about everything and how HAL does everything better than Princess - I asked him why he was here and he answered "why, the price of course" and continued to complain.

Another lunchtime episode - a gentlemen was complaining because there was no sugar on the table - I called a waiter over and requested some and he brought it. I handed it to the complainer and he said " why are you handing that to me, I don't use it". I asked him why he was complaining about it and he answered "well it just should be on the table for anyone that wants it.

Go figure.

Hello

I usually agree, But we just has the worst cruise in recent years, Yes we liked some aspects but the service was so bad, and staff so miserable it's hard to "just get over it" We wanted to enjoy our cruise so much but every minute was just awful when it came to the staff on board.

Show of hands from anyone who didn't see this coming . . .

Anyone else tired of the bad reviews (here on CC and on TripAdvisor) from cranky people? I know that not everyone is happy all the time. However, some of the things that people complain about just astound me! The sense of entitlement that some people have is way out of whack. There are 3000+ passengers on a cruise ship. Please realize (not realise as some people spell it in their reviews) that whatever biases, expectations, and personal experiences you hold, are going to impact your experience on the cruise. My wife and I are happy-go-lucky and laid back. When things don't go perfectly, we laugh and get over it.

So you want stepford wives? We're all different and bring different views to the table. I am tired of people who flame others, for a different point of view.

Are you talking about the Carib princess cruise? This was an Aug 22 cruise and your post is dated Aug 29 - are you still on the ship? Or were you talking about the March Celebrity cruise

I have a good story about cranky people. We are on the CB now and last night while standing at the pursor's desk, a couple was very upset because their room "was not big enough". The said they could barely turn around in it and demanded another room. Later in the casino someone was complaining that it was not big enough and was upset because they thought they had credits coming to them that they did not use the last cruise they were on.

The staff on this ship (at least those we had talked to so far) have just been wonderful, every single one of them. They work very hard. Our room steward Roger has just been wonderful and has already put up Happy Birthday balloons for my birthday today:)

So far, this cruise has been excellent and I am a happy camper now after having my clam chowder from the Black Pearl:D

Oh and the wifi connection is great, I love this little Asus, connected up in lightening speed. Wonderful cruise so far!

Linda

I agree... Just because you paid your money doesnt give you the right to treat the staff like your personal slave during the cruise. The level of self importance and entitlement is unreal. If I'm not getting mine right now, the way I what it, then the vacation is a disaster.

A simple "please" or "thank you" or "may I" goes a long way with the staff and will certainly improve your overall trip experience.

Some of the behavior I've seen from fellow travelers aboard ship is not to be believed. They treat the staff like animals. Expect them to smile and take it because they paid their money! Those are the first people who complain about the cruise. To make matters worse the complaints aren't constructive or reflective of the entire experience. They are just complaining because they didn't get their way.

For example; "I can't believe I had to take the stairs to reach the ships tender craft" or " the toast wasn't hot enough by the time it reached my table" or "the hot chocolate wasn't hot enough" or "my vaction was ruined because I didnt have a top sheet between the duvet and the matress sheet". Smokers in the casino; " They treat us smokers like animals" as you puff smoke into the dealers face for 2 hours. "Oh does the smoke bother you?" The list goes on and on.

Life isn't perfect and neither will your vacation ever be perfect. Deal with it like an adult.

I'd still rather be on a rotten cruise than be stuck at home. What was wrong with the staff and service?

Hi Linda. Will you tell me what "asus" is? I'm wondering if it is a computer/internet. I am thinking of getting something new for our Jan 2010 cruise and looking for ideas.

Thanks. Lynne

I'm not Linda, but I can tell you what an Asus is. It's a little (10" or smaller) netbook computer that a lot of people have purchased to take with them when traveling. Here's a link for more info: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1005477

I'm just curious....do you think inside cabin passengers get less service from their stewards?

I had an inside cabin once on the Dawn, it was a very nice experience. Our Steward(ess?) was Maria, a very hard worker, she was always on top of things. ie: Ice, towels, turndown service, robes. Even ballons on our anniversary. I was treated the same as I was on previous cruises in a balcony.

Not to beat a dead horse, but people in other countries spell the word realize differently, and correctly for their country. Just like in the US we spell neighbor and in the UK it's neighbour.

This has been my two cents worth. :)

Lynne,

I have an Acer brand 10 inch computer that I use when I travel. Although the screen is tiny, it's so handy AND has a huge amount of memory. It fits in my purse (granted it's a fairly large purse) and has met my needs many a time. One minus is there is NO dvd drive internally. So, if you can download movies etc. you're fine, but if you want to bring discs you're out of luck.

I got mine at WalMart. They sell a package online(computer, printer, cables, carrying case, etc) or just the computer in stores. I think I paid $299 for it. They come in many colors too!

IMO, Acer is a good brand. We have a regular laptop (also bought at Walmart) that is an Acer that has served us very well.

Hope this has been helpful.

I walk with a Service Dog; I enter an elevator, on a formal night [not too full, there's room to maneuver], a lady standing in a corner opposite me says; "I don't like dogs", I say I'm sorry you don't.

I try and move myself and Brenda as far away from her as I can. We stop at a floor and 2 more people get on the elevator; a woman & her husband, dressed in a lovely, formal gown & tux, the woman spots "Brenda" and says; "I love dogs, and miss my own, may I touch her", I say, "How wonderful and, of course you may!" And, she maneuvers herself closer to me and Brenda. She leaves the elevator with a big smile and a wink to Brenda.

The "dog hater" moves closer and says; "may I touch your dog", I say, "please do!" We became very fast friends [in that elevator] and she would stop to touch or talk to Brenda every time we bumped into her.

Moral of the Story: Everyone has some love inside them....it just takes another lovely person [or a dog] to bring it out!!!!!

What a wonderful story! And kudos to you for taking the high road and not saying "I thought you didn't like dogs". Thanks for making my day.

We were on a 10-day + 18-day B2B. The first part 10-day was an Inside. I did my laundry and it was almost our late trad dinner time. So I dumped the laundry on the chair. When we returned, the laundry was all folded up and on the bed! What can I say except I will remember that for ever! She also arranged with the deck supervisor for the move to our cabin for the 2nd part of the cruise.

I'm just curious....do you think inside cabin passengers get less service from their stewards?

I have traveled all over the world. I haven't taken that many cruises, but I always go with no expectations that way I am not disappointed and am usually more than pleased. I don't let little things get me down.

As far as the no top sheet goes, if you want that then all you have to do is ask the steward and he/she will get it for you. I use a duvet at home and I don't use a top sheet just a bottom one as my duvet is satin. I have been to two Med Cruises and I did not have a top sheet on those cruises and since I don't use a top sheet at home I didn't expect it.

A cruise is what you make of it. If you let things bother you, than you are not going to have a good time.

On my last Med Cruise we had a terrible steward. He just was not a happy camper at all. Several times our room was not made up even at 4pm. I did call housekeeping several time when this would happen and they gave us a different steward who was wonderful. This particular steward had several complaints and when we reached Croatia, he left the ship and didn't come back.

But he didn't spoil our cruise. We had a wonderful time and just went with the flow. The food was great. We had anytime dining and could go when we wanted. We would just walk up and tell the Maître ‘D we would fill in a table and we would not have to wait. I know this might not be the case on the Sapphire this time, but I am not going to let that stop me from having a good time. If we have to eat at a table for two, the table's for 2 are lined up next to each other, I will just ask for a middle table. That way we can meet whom ever is on either side of us.

I am glad that you will give Princess another chance and I am sorry you didn't have a good time on the CB.

I have only gone on one other cruise line and that was HAL. Had a wonderful time, bujt I hated the ship. Not the service just the ship itsself. But that doesn't mean that I would not try a different ship.

I leave on Septenber 12 after a 11 day land tour. I will let you know how it went.

Smiles.......Kitty (Nan)
