callajl Posted August 29, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2009 For my DD's graduation she is interested in cruising the Western Mediterranean. We are thinking of flying into Rome and staying there a couple of days. Which airport would we need to fly into to be closest to the city? The cruise I am looking at is RCCI Navigator: Itinerary: Rome- Genoa Villefranche Barcelona Palma de Mallorca Cagliari Sea Rome Do any of these ports except Rome require travel time to get to from where you dock or tender? Is there a must do in any of these ports? Thanks in advance :]
euro cruiser Posted August 29, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2009 If you are coming in on an international flight, you don't have a choice. FCO (Roma Fiumicino, also known as Leonardo DaVinci airport) is your only option.
CruiserBruce Posted August 29, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 29, 2009 And Rome is about 45 mins to the east of FCO. The port is about 75 mins northwest of Rome, and about 40 mins north of FCO. Think of the area as a triangle, with airport, the port and the city each on a point of the triangle.
Rare Hlitner Posted August 29, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2009 Regarding travel time, none of those ports involve really long treks when compared to getting from Rome to Civitavecchia (more than an hour). But, and this is a big but, depending where you decide to spend your day at any port will control your travel time. For example, when you are in Genoa you can simply walk along the water, go the Aquarium, have lunch, etc. with no travel time.....but you could also decide to go to Portofino or even Cinque Terre which would involve substantial travel time.
