RedbirdFL Posted August 31, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 31, 2009 I'm cruising on the Carnival Triumph a month from tomorrow (woo hoo!) and had been saving pennies for the slot machines. However, I was reading an article in USA Today this morning about penny slot machines and it said that the machines don't accept coins. Is this true for all the slot machines on the ship? Do we pay with our S&S card, dollar bills, or either?

DanJ Posted August 31, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 31, 2009 They definitely take bills and you can also use your S&S card in the machine as well. I didn't sit at the machine long enough to notice if they still had a coin slot or not.

Cash in the darned heavy things and turn them into bills, they are a lot lighter to transport.
micro yaya Posted August 31, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 31, 2009 You can put bills in the machine, but the payout is now coinless, you need to set up an account with your sail and sing card. Here's what i did,,,,,,,,,i set up my card, put in a 20$ bill, and played, when i was finished i loaded my winnings onto the card for the next time i wanted to play, if i lost i put another bill in the machine........the last night i got a letter saying i had a positive amount and not to forget to cash out before leaving the casino.......this was on the glory, and on hal oosterdam.......... infoprof56 Posted August 31, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 31, 2009 It is very unlikley (probably nonexsistant) that there is a penny slot machine anywhere in the world that takes coins. It would be far too labor intensive for the casino to deal with. It would also likely drive the player crazy as most play dozens of pennies on a pull (button press) and many payouts are in the thousands of coins. Slot play is more like playing a video game now than the old one arm bandits you may be picturing. It is becoming rare to find a quarter machine that still takes coins. Donray Posted August 31, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 31, 2009 Have not seen a slot machine that takes coins in any casino for many years. They take bills and the cash out tickets that the slots print for a cash out. There might be a few ship casinos left where the slots take and payout in coins, but I don't think so. None in Las Vegas, Reno, Indian casinos, or ship casinos that I have seen in the last few years.
okgirl Posted August 31, 2009 #8 Share Posted August 31, 2009 I've only sailed with Carnival, but the slots on their ships still take coins and at least on quarter and dollar machines will pay back coins. The dollar actually pays you back a Carnival dollar token, but the quarters are regular legal coins. Not sure about the smaller denomination slots, I rarely play them. Most of the time I do put my credits into my players bank but not always sometimes I like to get a bucket of quarters and just roam from machine to machine. sjcruiser Posted September 1, 2009 #10 Share Posted September 1, 2009 I think Carnival still takes coins. I know on the Imagination in 2006, I carried several hundred dollars in quarters back as souvenirs.
RedbirdFL Posted September 1, 2009 Author #11 Share Posted September 1, 2009 OK, thanks for the info. I haven't played a slot machine since my husband and I cruised on Premier's Big Red Boat BK (before kids) back in '86. (And as far as carrying the pennies, I probably have less than 50! Shows you how little I know about gambling! :D )
