Why Doesn't Disney Cruise from Houston Bayport?

If they struggle to fill the ship, wouldn't it make sense to lower the price of cabins. It's better to have the cabins full, then you make money off of alcohol and other luxury items.

Shmoo is right. The only 4 night Galveston cruises are a 1 port stop in Cozumel with 2 sea days on the Wonder. The Dream is tied to Port Canaveral at the moment.

They have 7 night cruises to Grand Cayman, Falmouth and Cozumel as well as 7 night Bahamian cruises to Nassau, Key West and CC, and 7 night repo cruise to San Juan.

DCL will only discount Staterooms if they think they won't sell the rooms. I guess they are hedging their bets that they will at the moment.

Disney is the master of marketing but they dropped the ball on advertising when coming to Texas. It was during the recession yet Texas barely felt the slowdown. Texas has many cities that Disney could have advertised in - Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Fort Worth, Lubbock, etc. I only learned that Disney was going out of Galveston when I decided to take one of my daughter in laws and grand babies on a cruise out of Galveston. I goggled cruise lines going out of Galveston - that is how I found out. We ended up traveling on Disney 3 times that year. ( 2013) We now go out of Galveston a couple of times whenever they are here. This Christmas we will have 5 rooms. The funny thing is that Disney started advertising their cruise lines on TV in our market in Texas AFTER they pulled out of Galveston full time.

Another issue with Bayport is that it takes a lot longer to get into international waters. The casino and the shops can't open until they are in international waters. There is also a limited amount of alcohol that can be served while in Texas waters. If it is even a little windy they have to get a tugboat to help the ship.

No casino on DCL ships, but you are right about the shops and the cost of navigating the channel.
