  1. website "update"

    April 8, 2016

Concordia dismantling and recycling operations are quickly progressing and the deck 0 has re-emerged over the past weeks.

About 200 technicians are now working on the wreck and cutting decks – from 5 to 3 – while strip out operations continue to remove internal fitting, with work about to be completed on deck 2 and 1.

As the weight of the wreck becomes lighter, it has been possible to remove 6 sponsons so far (S1, S2, S3, P1 and P3). Simultaneously operations are in progress to restore autonomous buoyancy to the hull so to allow to remove all the sponsons and then to transfer the wreck to dry dock where the final demolition will take place.

Concordia dismantling and recycling operations are quickly progressing and the deck 0 is about to re-emerge.

About 200 technicians are now working on the wreck and cutting decks – from 5 to 3 – while strip out operations continue to remove internal fitting with work about to be completed on deck 2 and 1.

As the weight of the wreck becomes lighter, it is has been possible to remove also the third sponson (S3) in addition to the previous two (S1 and P1) already removed. Indeed with the weight of the wreck becoming lighter, some sponsons are not necessary anymore and also S2, on the starboard side, and P2 and 3, on the port side of the ship will be disconnected in the upcoming weeks.

Simultaneously operations are in progress to restore autonomous buoyancy to the hull so to allow to remove all the sponsons and then to transfer the wreck to dry dock where the final demolition will take place.

  3. to me, S3 seems to be the only one floating on its own. S2 and S4 appear to be in the same positions. S14 and S15 may be gone but I can't tell from the webcam any longer. Seems the sponsons have just been moved and tied up along the salvage area once they are plucked from the wreck.

I wish the ship recycling website would post some photos or an update. It's about due for their 1-2 month update anyway, but it would be nice if they would make a weekly update/report and a few images like the parbuckling project used to make through Giglio.

  4. The tops of the tall sponsons were removed starting last month since they do not serve a purpose.

Status update posted on the recycling website 9/24, though it does not mention a whole lot that hasn't already been discussed before. Some of the sponsons will be removed entirely in the coming weeks.

  5. Not much news going on I guess, but the recycling website finally posted a status update this week.

July 27 marked the 1-year date since the ship arrived in Genoa.

Meanwhile in Giglio, M30 also removed the first of the underwater platforms Monday.

  6. I would like to learn more about the operations surrounding the recycling process. Since she was towed to the Port of Genoa in early May, there hasn't been a peep about status updates, pictures, etc. The webcam clearly shows forward sections of the ship have been removed from the upper decks, so things have certainly commenced in the last month.

  7. I noticed that M30 seemed to have been renamed shortly after she left Giglio last time. 99% sure it's the same ship.

If anyone has any connections in Giglio, kindly ask them to turn the cleanup camera to the right a little bit :) I imagine the traffic on the Giglio webcams has dropped noticeably since Concordia left the island.

  8. press release about a video, seemingly taken aboard the concordia without authorized access. If it's enough to warrant a press release, I'd like to see the video!

Regarding the video appeared on the internet and picked up by some media sources and on the Concordia currently moored at the breakwater of the Port of Pra Voltri for relief operations, the Ship Recycling Consortium would like to clarify the following.

The Consortium Ship Recycling is taking steps to file suit to unknown for obvious violation of access to the wreck of the Concordia took place, from what can be seen in the video posted on the web in recent days.

The Ship Recycling Consortium emphasizes that the wreck is staff on board even during the night, whose task is the defense of the ship in terms of government systems and systems for the safety of the wreck itself.

A security service 24 hours 24 is present in the sixth head pier for access control area of the yard to the ground.

Following this unfortunate incident, the Consortium Ship Recycling is taking steps to implement the security service staff also positioned at the breakwater where the ship is moored and with the installation of cameras.

  9. March 4, 2015

Stripping operations on board the Concordia are restlessly progressing. The removal of furnishings and internal fittings has been completed on deck 6, and technicians are working on the other emerged decks.

The number of workers deployed in the operations has reached 280 people, 250 of which are operating on board.

Environmental monitoring is carried out in parallel, with no critical issues registered.

  10. I've been watching the starboard sponsons quite intently the last few days, and I haven't seen evidence that any of them have been moved. Everything I've read indicates S3-S15 & (S18) will be re-positioned lower than they are now. All the attention the last 2 days seems to have been on passing and connecting chains & cables under the ship - and it makes sense to me that they would want that portion of the project at 100% before they start messing with the balance of individual sponsons.

  11. Of some of the major US news networks I found this video as one the best, with some commentary from Nick Sloane

  12. a lot of new Photos and videos uploaded to the Project portion of the Parbuckling website

This particular album shows how the stern has been refloated almost 2 decks. Not sure if the Bow will follow or not.
