1. We’re currently aboard Voyager on an Australian cruise and have been - most unexpectedly- invited to dinner with the Captain later this week. This is a first for us. The invitation says “formal dress”. My husband has a navy blazer and grey slacks, white dress shirt and tie, which is in line with how most men have dressed on the 2 formal nights thus far. Is this adequate, or should he try to rent a tux? I do have a dress; however, I have a beautiful dressy top and black pants I’d prefer to wear, if appropriate. What are your ideas? Thanks!!
Personally I always have a tux in my luggage in case the invite comes.(y)
  2. onboard Navigator now and Windjammer has been the best...ever. Varied nightly dinners, very impressive dessert bars. Last nights cake displays would look familiar to anyone that had been to a real midnight buffet. Many MDR items on dinner buffet. Only negative is they close at 9pm. Food has been excellent in Jammer and room packed each night no matter when you arrive. Chefs and crew happy and interactive.

New MDR menus very limited. Dining room no wait and not more than 60% full. Had 4 different people approach during dinner in Sapphire dining room on one evening to sell me specialty dining; already have specialty dining package and constant interruption pretty annoying and put me off. Lunch in MDR food blah (besides excellent salad bar). No kids menu in MDR (we have asked and were told they don’t have anymore; which I find shocking and probably not correct)

Long and short; wife and I both believe it won’t be long before cruise ships offer buffet only w fare and specialty dining as upcharge, no MDR middle ground. They’ll need to physically expand windjammers and extend hours to make this work but sure seems like MDR being purposely de-emphasized w new menus and constant annoying upsell tactics

LOL Sooo very funny this post, guess you have noticed the three tier main dining room on all the new Oasis class ships> Haramony, Symphony,etc...:o
  3. Remember cruising when you paid your fare and taxes and gratuities and that was IT? Now cruise lines, especially RCCL, are charging for basically everything- better food, room service, fancy coffee, yoga classes. My question is: What will they charge for next? How far does their nickel and diming go? Here’s my guesses:

    Theater and show tickets

All food and drink (except tap water)

Flowrider, zipline, rock climbing wall, carousel

    Public bathrooms

    Hot tubs

    Meet ups with dreamworks characters

    Kids programs

    Gym usage

What do you think? Where’s your line in the proverbial sand?

Who cares! Sooo sick of the whiners and moaners such as yourself, no one is forcing you to spend extra on anything...
  4. 7 sun-filled days, a great bunch from roll call, diving, ice, headliner shows all fantastic. Coffee an croissants in Central Park-always a Home Run!

    Unfortunately:

Windjammer food totally devoid of any flavor

The ship was simply under-staffed. Wait for: food, drinks, cabin not cleaned until 5 PM twice, 1 hour 15 line for burgers and dogs at Labadee. Lines at guest services.

1/2 of our 115 member roll call complained about .....SERVICE. One gal, who has sailed OAS 5 times said "never again"!

So before the RC Cheerleaders flame me, We won`t sail RCL again.

    See Ya!!....
  5. It is unfortunate that I have to again complain about the way elderly handicap persons are treated on Royal Caribbean ships. Today we are sailing on the Adventure of the Seas and encountered a totally unorganized and uncaring handicap station while we waited to board the ship. We arrived at 12:18pm and it took exactly one hour for someone to arrive to take my 83 year old father on the ship. There were probably six to eight other people waiting for someone to assist them. After waiting outside in the hot humid weather of San Juan, I approached the Pier Coordinator--Virginia Davilla about the delay and was told twice that if you are tired waiting, you are welcome to walk on board. Uh, I am with my 83 year old disabled father and this is the response that I get from the Pier Coordinator--just walk onboard. If he could walk onboard do you think we would be sitting in the heat for an hour? Come on--what ever happened to showing compassion to elderly handicap people. I am totally disgusted with the treatment we received today.
Terrible and misleading title, don't generalize it makes you sound igno----!
  6. We have sailed the Oasis out of Canaveral 5 times now. Only Diamond +, Suites and Pinnacles can use the suite waiting area. Diamonds are squeezed in a small roped off area with chairs near the boarding area....

Your Emerald friends will not be allowed to go. We have asked when we had another couple with us and each time they said “sorry no”.

I do hope you enjoy your cruise. The Oasis is awesome!!!

This is incorrect....it's only Pinnacle and Suites.:)
  7. Long story short...if you rebook for lower rate and lose onboard credit you’ve already used, it’s a nightmare to straighten out. I also learned that drink packages and shore excursions stay with the room, not the person. I booked my teens in an interior and husband & I in aft balcony. Travel agent was assured at booking this met requirements...which it does not. Swapped daughter for husband, all is fine. Except she’s 15, so it cancels his drink package that we bought at buy one get one half off on Black Friday. Get that straightened out to notice husband now going to beach in St. Thomas and daughter going off shore fishing. [emoji849] Still have to make that call to straighten out. And I’m two calls and several emails in to fixing the lost-but-used onboard credit. I thought it was almost straightened out, but an email telling me how to repay the credit never arrived as was promised from the resolutions team via the phone agent who never really understood the issue to begin with. I’ve spent almost two hours total on hold and I’m not done yet. But from now on, I’ll use my onboard credit to pay my gratuities.

    Uh....OK:o
  8. It really makes no sense why it takes such effort for a simple and logical request to be fulfilled. Are some staffers playing games?
Don't believe every complaint you hear. Common sense, when you get a "bad" complaint from a post and everyone else on that cruise had no complaints, well you don't have to be a Harvard grad to figure that out.:D
  9. Sailed Harmony 12/9/17. Me and some buddies had lunch on embarkation day in Windjammer. I happened to notice the shapes of the nuggets. Definitely are the same as those served at Wendy's. They also taste the same. Let me be clear, I'm not complaining, I'm just wondering if anyone else noticed this? Don't know if its fleetwide, but is RCI in cohoots with Wendy's. That would be great!!
LOL one of the dumber posts I've run across in some time. And the answer is NO.
  10. With the way that the point system works I don't see that many people getting to the Masters Level which is the only one that gets you suite access plus my guess is that most of the players in the highest level are already getting suites comped. Thoughts?
LOL so true RCL knows what they are doing, the very few people who make the masters tier will affect the suite lounge at the alarming rate of wait for it......basically zero! :)
  11. I like the no-nonsense approach, and appreciate it, but also wonder how many people maybe remove the gratuities all together?
There are quite few cheap inconsiderate a------- out there. This you can count on. Personally prepay the gratuities and then add extra on top of that for the crew.:D
  12.

Crew does NOT get all the money, the cruise lines takes out an administration fee and also takes out things for employess of the month and incentives.

    Thanks for chiming in, that’s very interesting. $6.90/cabin/day x 19 cabins/day x 7 days/week = $917.70/week on gratuities alone? [emoji848]
And you know this how???
  13. Royal has been and continues to change who they are marketing the cruises to. If you want the quiet more laid back cruises that are more about the ports you need to cruise on Radience class and below. The larger newer ships are all about the ships and are geared towards families.

Going forward as the older, smaller classes get sold off you will need to accept the changes or sail another line.

Roayl has positioned Celebrity to be that line that's offering more of the traditional experience.

True Ken or the OP can always head to the D lounge a bit earlier to snag a seat.:D
  14. They make you fill out the health questionnaire between cruises. So if you answer yes to any of the questions you would be evaluated by the medical staff before being allowed to reboard the ship.
Bob have done more than 3 dozen B2B cruises and have never once had to fill out a "second" health questionnaire.:D
  15. Im supposed to go on a cruise in the beginning of December. When I did final deposit they had substituted st Martin and Puerto Rico for other islands. Now RCL is saying they will be the first to go back to these ports. I think its horrible, that they would vavaction were so many people are suffering. RCL should be giving money and time for these people to heal. I feel its not cool to be vacationing while people are living without food, power and clean water.

Please call RCL cooperate and tell them this is wrong 305-539-6455.

    I think not....
  16. We are Diamond Plus on RCI, so I'm an obvious fan and they are my preferred cruise line. But there is one area where they fall short of most of the other cruise lines and I am hopeful they will shortly make some improvements. I'm talking about their beds, bedding and pillows.

We all used to request the old egg crate mattress covers, but those are no longer available. Now they'll put an extra mattress pad on, but that doesn't solve the problem of very hard mattresses. Sure, there are those that prefer a hard mattress, and I can make do, but when you consider the two terrible wafer pillows that are included, it just doesn't make for a good sleeping experience. The bedding is also starting to show its age.

Princess and HAL are not as good as RCI in my opinion, but they've at least stepped it up on their beds and bedding. Now if only RCI would catch the vision. Come on guys!

To each his own, some of the best sleep I've ever had is on RCL bedding.:D
  17. I need the name, email, or address of someone high in the ranks to contact about a complaint. Bob, can you help?

I called to purchase OBC to be applied to my daughter's upcoming cruise. The conversation between the agent and myself went great, very professional, and prompt.Names and cabin # confirmed. I was told I'd get an email confirmation. Email arrived within 2 minutes. Everything looked correct about sail date, booking #, cabin #, daughter's name, & amount. However, when I look at the spelling of the last name of my daughter' s male cabin mate, it was incorrect- and not by just a letter or two. Someone, guessing the agent I talked to, purposely spelled another last name which has a very inappropriate Spanish translation. No where close to the correct name. I called again, spoke to another agent, told him the problem. He kinda chuckled, said he'd fixed it on his side and there shouldn't be a problem since the cabin # was correct and I didn't need another email reflecting the correction. At that point, I was still polite, said OK, and hung up.

My intention was to give them the email confirmation to take with them in case there are issues with the OBC appearing on their account. The longer I think about someone intentionally typing this incorrect last name, the more it upsets me. I'm thinking someone thought it funny or even "creative," but I don't appreciate it or find the humor.

I'm not one to complain or make waves about issues. I'd rather just blow things off and move on. At first, I thought I'd just let this go, but I've decided this unprofessional action needs to be brought to someone's attention. I'll get a correct confirmation with correct spellings before I give them a copy of the email.

    Sorry for my rant.

Stop assuming, you know how that can make you look....
  18. Trying to understand why you are asking so many questions. The original post was quite clear. The OP is venting.

I have seen an excess of dirty dishes on the first day and it is an unpleasant way to begin a cruise. There's really no excuse for it, even if there are explanations as to why it happens.

Saw ONE picture of plates on a table, need more proof with a post such as this one.
