  1. We have been through the Bay of Biscay a few times now and it is consistently rough no matter the time of year. Even on a big ship like the Independence, it was noticeably pitching and rolling (incidentally there was also some interesting creaking from all of the windows with each pitch and roll which made for an interesting soundtrack!).

I hope today is calmer for you!

  2. Following! We will be on Vision in June! Great review so far!

Hey, 5inead! Have you thought about doing a review of your May 10th? We will be doing the same itinerary in June and would love to read about it! ;p

I was thinking of doing one actually as I think the itinerary is quite a fun one! We haven't yet decided if we are going to buy WiFi outside of that offered with our Diamond perks (I do love the chance to switch off for a few days!) but, if I do, I will for sure do a review!

  3. Feel free to follow my Vision review from the repo cruise starting today. And you're more than welcome to ask questions!

Oh I absolutely will do that - get me excited for out trip Tuesday week! Thank you for the heads up and enjoy your cruise!

  4. Yep, they're on Oasis and I believe Explorer. But I think they're still in a state of flux, because initially, they had a "local" selection based on where you were cruising, but on more recent one that has not been an option. Here are the menus http://www.******************.com/2016/07/07/spotted-new-main-dining-room-menu-royal-caribbeans-oasis-of-the-seas

Edit: the website I linked to it not "allowed". Just Google "new Royal Caribbean menus" and it should come up, second result.

Oh wow that's great - I think I actually saw a picture of this menu layout on a thread where a couple are live blogging theur Cruise on the Anthem this week so maybe it has rolled out a bit further? Fingers crossed!

  5. When do you guys think the new menus will be fleetwide? Oasis already has them, but I recently saw someone post a screenshot of a survey asking about new menus.

Oh wow so there are actually new menus coming? That would be super if they were here before our cruise on the Vision next month as we've had the same menu for what feels like 6 cruises now - doubtful though!

Thanks for posting this! I'll admit - I'm a little disappointed to see that they haven't changed the menu fleetwide over the last few years. Before both of our cruises last year, we said "it will surely be different this time round" but, no such luck! Luckily, we know what's good to order!

Looking forward to seeing your next fee days - enjoy the cruise!

  7. Thank you everyone for taking the time to answer my question. We set sail in two weeks and we are very exited. I really like RCCL, but the two things that I consistently don't like from past experiences were disembarkation and non UK style bacon or sausage. As I've already mentioned, this is only to be expected when sailing from the US, so this isn't a dig a RCCL either. RCCL serve (In my opinion) "American style" bacon just like in every Denny's I've ever been too. It's not bad, but I don't think I could do two weeks without out style bacon.

If it makes you feel better for a future cruise, we were on Freedom in September out of Port Canaveral and both styles of bacon were available. However, I know from a previous Captain's Talk that they plan and vary menus depending on where the majority of passengers are from so, there may have been lots of Europeans on that cruise!

  8. Before I bought my tag holders, I would print out the tags and use clear packing tape to cover the front and back of the tags and then use a hole punch to punch a hole at the bottom of each tags on each end. Then I took bread twist ties with me and when I was ready to head to the port I just put them on with the twist ties. They were always secure and stayed dry if the bags got caught in the rain.

So it just depends if you want to get them ready before you leave or spend the time letting the porter print them out. Me, personally I like to have everything ready to go, so I can just get on the ship.

I'm jealous....wish I was cruising this next week. Have lots of fun!!

Wow that's some impressive DIY! We usually just pre-fold the tags, tape at the pier and leave with the luggage guys. I think we will be buying holders for our cruise on the Vision out of Amsterdam next month though!

  9. Do porters at the pier have tapes I can use to tape the tags, or do I need to bring my own packing tape? :o

Going on Oasis this Sunday and I realized I should have just bought some tag holders from Amazon. Too late for that. Oh well - live and learn.

Some porters do have tape but, I always have a roll of washi tape in my suitcase. Surprisingly, I've used it for more things than just luggage tags over the years too [emoji23]

  10. Last year on Independence the cupcake shop turned into a pie shop that sold Pieminister pies and also doubled up as Izumi Express. I have to say pie shop was more empty than full for my 2 weeks on the ship.

That's really interesting as it didn't on either the Explorer or Independence a couple of years ago! While a bit cliché, at least the pies might fill you! The cupcakes were pretty terrible if I recall rightly!

  11. I have been on Independence from Southampton (and Explorer) and it was always the cupcake shop - a pie shop would have been better!

Re: the bacon and sausages, you get American style bacon and what we in Ireland would consider rashers of bacon... More meat, less fat. You also get UK/Irish/European style sausages in their skins and the American sausages that are kind of textured and have no skin.

There is good variety but, the food on sailings from Southampton is very much geared towards a British audience - lots of Indian dishes, fish and chips, baked beans with breakfast etc.

  12. We booked our next cruise (Vision 10th May) before the new drinks packages were announced - our deal included the Select Package.

We usually upgrade this to the Premium Package once on-board. In lieu of the Select/Premium/Ultimate packages, does anyone know if the old Select Package can be upgraded to the new Deluxe Package?

    Thanks in advance!

PS I did get in touch with RCI on this matter but, as per usual, no reply .

  13. Hi,

We are cruising on the Independence on 23rd of August and tend to work out almost everyday.

My boyfriend is a personal trainer and wants to write up some programs in advance of boarding. Does anyone have recent knowledge of what the Fitness Centre is like equipment - wise? Is there kettlebells?

    Thanks!
