taxis are $8 per taxi to Mahahual for up to 4 people each way, so best if you can find someone to share with at the taxi dispatch. You can pay a single trolley fare ( I think $3) TO Mahahual but you need to get a taxi back to the port. It takes about 5 minutes.

As explained above, transport to Maya Chan is included in the day pass but you need to walk outside the port and along the road some distance to the taxi meeting point for it. This is not dangerous but is a problem for anyone with mobility problems as it is already a long walk from the ship along the pier and through the port. The taxi ride to Maya Chan is a good 20 minutes, depending on the state of the road, which is unpaved after the malecon of Mahahual. You will be in a group van traveling with other cruisers to Maya Chan.

Google maps shows Maya Chan about 30 minutes from the port. Others have reported that it is a long drive. I think I will try to get to the Malecon - maybe Jaime's at Blue Reef, Krazy Lobster or Tropicante. Jaime's says she has an all inclusive, but I'm re-thinking my plan since I don't drink. I may not want to over-pay for a day out - but don't want to simply stay at the port.

  2. I'm doing Disney for the first time before cruising solo from Port Canveral in December. Looking for a transfer from Disney Springs to the pier?

If this transfer is not possible then I "should" be able to get back to MCO from Disney Springs. Prefer to leave directly from my hotel though. Any suggestions? Not my first time cruising from Port Canveral but just first time at Mickey's house!:cool:

  3. We are going to do a Yacht Race with "On Deck" Tours --- they used to have a place in St. Thomas so I've used them before. It's the kind of thing where two yachts go out and race each other on a course (with real deck hands, of course). Super fun to do. You can be as active as you wish, or sit back and enjoy the salt spray.

I just happened upon their office the last time I was in Antigua because it's right near Nelson's Dockyard and we were wandering around. I said that when I returned I'd go sailing with them again, and that's what we will be doing because our stop has been changed from St. Maarten to Antigua.

Do you have more info on this? Arriving next week.

  4. In San Juan next week aboard Freedom of the Seas. Only in Port from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. I've done both of the forts, a city tour and a walking tour of Old San Juan. I'm interested in doing a hop-on-hop-off bus tour. Does anyone have information on that? I'm not looking for the free trolley because I hear it's always full.

    Thank you in advance.

I would not take it personal. The agent should have booked you in the balcony without additional comments. You won't be treated any differently onboard.

I slightly disagree. I've sailed solo all the time and noticed staff are constantly asking if it's just me. Telling me to bring friends. Occasionally I felt that you get slightly less attention than those in larger parties. It really depends. The crew is great but I hate it when they ask repeatedly.

The biggest plus side is that you can move freely and do what ever you want to do.

  6. I enjoyed reading your review of the freedom. I'll be sailing on her next month! I'm very excited. I'm glad that you shared photos of your stateroom and the trick about moving the bed against the wall. I did have an inside room but changed to a Promenade. I hope that there will be enough space.

I'm interested in learning more about where you stood for the sunsets and the part of the the solarium that was quiet with chairs.

  7. Well, then apparently both their customer service staff and their website are not being honest about the coverage. The lady I talked was trying real hard to push it on me before final payment because I thought I may change my mind. If this is true, the insurance company needs to communicate better with Royal Caribbean. I'm even more glad that I didn't waste my money on it.

AON is the insurer. 1- 800-453-4022

    Can cancel for covered reasons.

If cancel before final pay, full refund. Give them a call. See if they changed their story now. But yes they did push me to keep my cruise. The cruise contract states they can change itinerary anyway. It's so confusing.

  8. I agree about the ports. I realize Southern is possible, but unlikely. They probably wouldn't be able to do 4 ports.

As far as travel insurance, if you buy it through Royal Caribbean, you can cancel for any reason. However, depending on when you cancel, you may not get a full refund, but more than if you didn't. I considered it and inquired before making my final payment. I decided not to bother, as I plan on going no matter what!

Actually I called Royal about that. They referred me directly to the insurance carrier. You actually can only cancel for covered reasons in order to get full refund. They were very particular about that. I did a lot of homework before final pay. I picked an outside insurer.

  9. Travel insurance won't cover named storms. I tried this route already. Even if they change ports there won't be a refund. I just want the same amount of ports and it should be fine.

Another cruise line does a full Southern itinerary in 8 days from Southern Florida so it is possible. I doubt RCL will do this as it cuts down on revenue opportunities. More sea days = more on board spending.

  10. It is suggested you start at Warwick Beach and walk to Horseshoe Bay because HSB has complete facilities so if you test the waters along the walk, you can freshen up before returning to the Dockyard.

Here is a satellite photo that shows the trails:

    SBtS!

I'm leaving on Anthem in 18 days! I've googled and researched every single way to do a beach tour of Bermuda. And then I found this marvelous thread! I can not thank you enough. I've walked along Horshoe Bay all the way to the first set of large rocks and up the hill to take photos. But I was a bit scared to continue on not knowing what was around the corner.

Can you tell me if this is a safe route for a solo traveler to do? I usually try to follow others on these sorts of excursions. As of now, seems like I will be able to walk the full trail. Just a bit confused about the difference between the horse trail and other trail.

    Thank you!
