Yes, and even then we are reading of people in the MDR in shorts. It has become a casual cruise line where you can dress up if you want to.
Unfortunately I misunderstood their website which is full of 'suggestions' for what I should take to wear. Won't make THAT mistake again. [emoji19]

On our RCCL cruise last month they allowed people in the MDR on formal night in anything. Many men in open necked shirts and trousers, and some even in jeans and polo shirts.
Why bother with a dress code at all. It was not enforced.
The standard of dress was higher in the specialty restaurants at all times.

I mentioned this thread to DH. He rolled his eyes and said, "Oh no...". I'll just have to inadvertently make sure we stroll past a fabric shop or two. And then a wee souvenir would be an essential purchase. 😂

Which cruise are you on? I'm just researching the very same. Royal Caribbean 9 July for me.
Do they always reserve you for first night on a dining package? BOGO?

They were pushing the dining package for the duration of our cruise on Independence in July. We had booked the 4 night, but upgraded it to the 5 after experiencing the quality of food/service in the MDR.
On booking online we had a reserved time for dining on the first night, but no allocated restaurant. We had to book that once on board.
