  1. Thanks everyone for recommendations for volume giving products. I am trying some I can find in small quantities to see what I like best. They really do make a difference in my thin limp hair. I would love to have my thick hair back again but it is what it is. I try to see the positive of it such as, it dries quickly, doesn't take much time to style, I do have some hair, and I am still here. Thanks again!!!!

  2. Does anyone know the dates of the San Sebastian Festival in San Juan for 2019? We are booked at the Sheraton Old San Juan for January 15-17, 2019. If the festival is that week, will the celebration involve the port? Will the noise keep us awake? Our cruise sails from the Pan Am port, but we love Old San Juan and wanted to spend two days precruise there.

  3. We are starving and thanks to the suggestion from some fellow Cruise Critic friends we head straight to Park Café and boy was that a good suggestion!! It's a small place but after a short line we had a delicious roast beef sandwich and even found an open table! (hint: we would not have been able to say the same about the Windjammer)

Don't keep track how often(or not often) you receive a photo pre-eaten in some capacity lol I am pretty forgetful.

Funny story: we sit next to a group of friendly strangers who turned out to be on Cruise Critic who recognized us from our pictures in my review! The lady leans over "Are you the guy doing the Cruise Critic review?"

Why yes, yes I am. lol This was interestingly the only time this happened on the cruise, which quickly humbled me from feeling like a celebrity, to being back on earth. If you are said people please call yourself out, I failed to get your username nor do I remember your name. Sorry

Took this photo of the Promenade from our table, pretty cool how incorporated this ship is from area to area.

We then explore the ship a bit, skipping the Windjammer because, SURPRISE! It's beyond packed, there's a line past the elevators and the stairs one floor down. Impressive. Me and dad get some more drinks because we can, my wife nurses her first one which is okay by me because like Kristie she did not get the package. only dad and I are the alcoholics lol :p. Now is a great time to mention Ramesh. We met him very early this day at the Schooner Bar. He bartends there every night and he was our favorite of the entire week. It just so happens this bar was the closest one to our Cabin which really made it that much better. He was very personable and we enjoyed each and every conversation we had with him. He took great care of us, remembering our names from the first interaction. Go and pay him a visit.

    Hi Sean,

I am the lady who recognized you in Park Café on the first day. It was a pleasure meeting you and your family. Enjoying your review, as it brings back wonderful memories of the great cruise we all had. Yes, the weather could have been better, and there were a few minor glitches here and there, but we never let those things stop us from having a wonderful time.

    Another funny story:

We went to Nachi Cocum in Cozumel, and there walking on the beach I spotted "Max's Mom", another Cruise Critic member, who writes wonderful reviews of their cruises. We had a great chat with her and her hubby, and shared a cab back to the ship. They cruise about 10 times a year, and will reach Pinnacle status next month. Lovely people!!

This was our 27th cruise and the first time I have ever recognized another Cruise Critic Member, and it happened twice. LOL Priceless!!!!!

Wishing you many more happy cruises:

    Barbara

  4. Enjoying your review. We were on the Oasis for a B2B last January, and this

brings back great memories. This ship is truly amazing.

Congrats on your weight loss. You look beautiful and I am sure you feel very

healthy. Keep up the good work.

Good luck on the knee surgery when you choose to do it. I am recovering from total hip replacement. Five weeks out and starting to feel great and anxious to get back to my old self and the activities I love.

    Awesome review as always!!!!!!!!

  5. Today I spoke with our trip insurer (Travel Guard) and there is a strong possibility they will pay for the damage to my luggage. Thanks to the person who suggested I contact them. I just didn't think it would be covered under travel insurance, thought it was solely responsibility of the airlines. I have to file a claim with lots of information (I have everything they need), and we'll see what happens. Will take about 30 days for an answer. I will report the decision as soon as I know. Thanks again for all your help.

  6. Following a B2B cruise on the Jewel of the Seas, we flew home on Feb 8th from San Juan to Atlanta to Dayton, Ohio. Air was booked through Southwest, however the Atlanta to Dayton flight was with AirTran. Upon arriving in Dayton and claiming our two bags, it was evident that one bag had been severely damaged. Large dent in top corner (whole corner caved in). This was the maiden voyage of my luggage, purchased a year and half earlier in anticipation of this cruise. Never used before. It is hard sider spinner luggage by Heys and designed by the artist Britto. Very colorful, very beautiful, and expensive. I immediately went to the baggage claim office of AirTran to file a report. The agent even photographed the damage, and told me his supervisor would be contacting me the next day. Upon arriving home and checking the other bag we discovered it had been damaged also (a large gash at the bottom cut clear through the shell).

Several days passed and no one called, so I called the number on the Incident receipt and was given another number for Southwest Central Baggage Services. I spoke to a very nice man who assured me that my claim would be taken care of and I should fax all the information I had to their fax number. I sent a copy of the receipt I obtained at the Dayton Airport, along with photos of the damaged bags, copies of our boarding passes, and two estimates for replacement of the bags. One of which was lower than the original price I paid.

Yesterday (almost a month after the incident) I received a letter from AirTran Central Baggage Services stating that it has been determined that the damage to my bags is "normal wear and tear". How can that amount of damage to two "new" bags be normal wear and tear?

I don't know what to do next. Is there anyone else I can go to, do I have any recourse at all?

Hoping someone with similar experience can help?????????? Thanks for listening, I feel better just getting this off my chest. I have learned a valuable lesson. I will never again travel with expensive luggage and entrust it to the airlines. A gentleman in the claim area told me he just uses throw away luggage, buys the cheapest he can find, and when they ruin it, throws it away and buys more.

If anyone can help, will sure be appreciated. Thanks......

  7. We were in 7118 on the Solstice (slightly different ship) and thought it was a decent room.

As far as the room itself, it was quiet with a small "ledge" below your balcony that really had no impact on your view.

It's a small hike to the Atrium area but other than that we'd book it again.

Thank you so much.....we don't mind the small hike....can eat more....LOL.

Was just worried about the view from the balcony....didn't want any obstructions. Appreciate your prompt reply.

  8. Another thing to think about and hope for would be B2Bs ...one MR and the next west Coast

OT......Hey Woody....do you remember us? We did the MR B2B out of San Diego a few years ago. Shared lunch of fresh fish in Cabo, caught by a friend of yours. Loved it. That was one of the best port days in all our years of cruising. Sure wish Royal would bring back the MR.

Best wishes to you and Vicki.

  9. Hi sacnaillady,

I have also had double mastectomies, and due to radiation damage on one side, scar is quite high. Don't feel comfortable in anything low cut. Finding bathing suits has always been a problem until I found this web site:

    southbeachswimsuits dot com

At the top under swimsuits, you will see mastectomy. Click on that, and they offer a nice selection. I especially like the Anita suits.

Good luck to you, and keep cruising.

    Barbara

  10. Sharon,

I have been reading your postings and it reminded me of other postings on this site and of my DW who passed away in 2000. My wife was a size 18 and one of the most extraordinary people that I could ever hope to know. She was beautiful, loving, intelligent and kind. Everyone who knew her felt blessed to have had her in their lives. I'm sorry that you feel fat at times, but please know that when you wear nice evening clothes, or a nice bathing suit by the pool, there are people like myself who appreciate seeing you. When I see a plus-sized elegant lady I remember this exceptional woman and how much she loved me. Just know that some of us really appreciate you exactly the way you look. So, thank you in advance for the joy and memories that you will bring if I see you on board a cruise ship. Jerry

Well said.....and a touching tribute to your wife. She was very lucky to have you as her man!!!!
