  1. Are you not going to try and recoup the additional tour costs as well?! We had 3 nights booked in Miami on route to Cartegena as stopover from UK and I am hoping to get this re-imbursed as well as my independent flights booked

We are being refunded our cruise and post cruise accom and change of flights( to the value of $500) from scenic. We lucky and managed to cancel our pre cruise accom in Cartagena.

As was said earlier...in reality there is no discount being offerred as most of us booked early bird. The same trip now is some 30% higher.

Like I said if they want loyalty and good word of mouth reviews, they need to treat those of us who have been put through so much heart ache and stress

  2. Dear cruising kirby,

We apologise for the inconvenience caused and in addition to the full refund, the Scenic team are committed to working closely with you to reschedule your trip to a suitable time, for travel within the next two years. We understand that availability is limited on certain destinations and appreciate the added complexity this has added to the process. If you wish to use your future cruise credit on an earlier journey, we are able to offer this on any of our Scenic River cruises in Europe (including Russia) or Asia rather than a new Scenic Eclipse Voyage. We encourage you to contact your travel agent to look at future departure availability.

    Regards,

    The Scenic Team

We got a letter offering a discount but only if we book before the end of November. We wont even be back from our replacement cruise by then.

Scenic seem to think that we can all afford a 40k (including airfares) cruise every year....I'm sorry but some of us cant. I was looking forward to using the discount on a River cruise in a couple of years but I'm not sure I will use scenic now. We have had to spend another 8k reorganising our trip due to the additional tours we had booked around the cruise. How can you expect us to show any loyalty if you cant show any real loyalty to us.

I think you have basically cost yourselves as many as 12 future fares as my wife and our 2 friends have plenty of cruises in mind for the future.

  3. thank you for that - unfortunately there seems to be very limited info out there - I suppose we will soon find out - is anyone else on December 6 sailing??

Close we are on the 9th of November staying on deck 7...we will try and leave as we found it

    Hi Wanaka

The bar menu that you have...it doesnt have a wine list with it by any chance...does it?

  5. Had to talk to the Scenic UK office on Friday so asked the question and no they are very sorry but could not supply me with a wine list as each river, area and country has a different wine selection, so it's going to be a wine adventure, yippee! Did find out though that although we will be arriving in Bordaux and on the ship mid morning there is no problem boarding at that time. CA

Only problem with that is that it may take a a fair few bottles before you find one you like :D

  6. Try a Spanish Rioja, some are somewhat on the oky side but most have that depth of flavour that really kicks. To me it's sunshine in a glass.

Thanks Canal....I think I did try one of those a little while back but seemed a little light from memory

  7. I am a huge fan of French reds and Chateauneuf du Pape is a favorite. I find it has the rich mouth feel and peppery finish which I enjoy and is a nice, bold wine. I am also a fan of the Cote du Rhone wines of that reqion and find some compare well to the Petite Syrahs I enjoy. Chapoutier makes some lovely Cote du Rhones and other great reds, including their Bila Haut. "Les Vignes de Bila-Haut, by Michel Chapoutier, Côtes du Roussillon Villages (syrah, grenache, carignan): deep red hue, aromas and flavors of black cherries and spice."

Pinot Noir as a rule is too wimpy for my tastes, which runs more to the chewy reds of the Rhone and certain parts of Italy.

We have been buying these wines by the case for years as our taste definitely runs to the French and Italian reds over the domestics.

This might be an interesting read for you: http://www.thewinecellarinsider.com/rhone-wines-cote-rotie-hermitage-chateauneuf-du-pape/rhone-wine-hermitage-producer-profiles/

We head to Bordeaux in a few weeks with Scenic and have been busy "researching" the wines of that region. This involves quite a bit of sampling and a few specialty wine tastings at some local shops and restaurants. :)

    Thanks Caviargal

Plenty for me to look at there.

BTW...have you managed to try any Australian Shiraz's? Sounds like you prefer the full bodied reds

  8. Hi 41rainbow, the Shiraz grape is the new world name for the Syrah grape which comes from the Rhone valley so you should have a great time comparing the new and old world versions. I had the wine list but I think it's on my old emai so will try to find it. Scenic has a great wine selection usually made up of local varieties. Last year on the south of France cruise there was a delicious Chateau neuf de Pap from one of the tastings we went to. Mind you my husband maintains that there are no bad wines only that some are very much better than others. It's an aim to taste, just a few to find that especial one you realy enjoy. On board you will find they offer about five different at lunch and dinner if non tempt you just ask for the wine list, the staff will always remember your preference.

Enjoy your cruise and I hope you find a wine to your taste. CA

Hi Canal...thanks for your prompt reply. Yes your right Syrah and Shiraz are the same. Syrah is sold here to. And yes it will be interesting to try the different varieties.

I guess I'm a little connected to the shiraz variety as I have been making it for a few years and just love the peppery/blackberry flavours that come through... I have tried a couple of Spanish Tempranillo, which are close but dont have the "punch"of a big Shiaz

  9. Hi

My wife and I are doing the Jewels of Europe in September. I'm just wondering if anyone can help with the Red wine list....I know its an odd request but I really only drink Aussie Shriraz's and only a couple of regions....guess that makes me a bit of a shiraz snob...anyway I tring to work out which eurpoean wines maybe similar

    thanks in advance

  10. First, let me say that I know this river cruise will be hot and humid. That being said, I need any and all suggestions on how to survive the heat when off the ship. What's tips have you all learned about trying to mitigate the sun, heat and humidity. Clothes? Fans? Misters?

I truly suffer in the heat, but really look forward to all that we will see. I just need your help!

Cruise Critic people have never let me down. SAVE ME, PLEASE!!

    Mom C

Cambodia is a little warm this time of year. We were there a couple of years ago and I thought it was one of the hotest places I spent any time in.

I did spend 2 days at Marble Bar in Western Australia and it was 48 c there....but it was a dry heat ...not like Cambodia and Vietnam where its humid as well

    Good luck

  11. I am going on my first cruise this fall. I booked a trip on the Danube that cost quite a bit of money. I have been reading posts on this site for the last couple of months and I am surprised at the amount of posts about how (I am going to group you all as you) you all just don't like tourists..

As we are all on a tour of a European river and most likely do not reside in Europe, I think that everyone on the boat qualifies as a tourist.

As far as how people dress...I have paid for a full package of walking tours, I will dress for a full day out (comfortable shoes shorts and tee), as well as have my camera gear and a pack. I honestly can't understand how an American can walk around Europe without a lot of camera gear.

I have another 10 days to explore Europe after the cruise, but I hope that the first eight aren't made miserable by a bunch of stuffy old people that judge people by their clothing.

I understand where your coming from. I've booked our first cruise for Sept 2016.. i too have been reading about people judging by what people wear...but dont let that bother you. I'm sure they are the minority. Some people like to really dress up to the 9's for dinner.....I know I dont....I'd go in trackers if I could...I find them way more comfortable if you stuff yourself with all the good food Ive read about

I think I will be in the younger end of the average passenger age but I dont intend to let that stop me from meeting some interesting people. lets face it we are all doing these cruises to see some great sights and meet some wonderful people.

wow only 555 days till we are off
