  1. I understand why surge suppressors should not be used on board ships. However, why doesn't Norwegian include this fact in the T&C's. Are all passengers expected to read the CC boards? (this would be a good idea by the way) or is this supposed to be such general knowledge they don't need to inform us before confiscating devices? I would think they would get a lot of complaints from surprised passengers.

  2. Just so you know, the latest Canon Rebel cameras are the T7i and the T77. Better video performance supposedly in these models. I agree with the above post. If you don't plan on changing lenses a good fixed lens mirror less camera such as Panasonic or Canon or Sony make will be much smaller, lighter and possibly more convenient to use. You may find the quality of the newest 1 inch fixed lens cameras is plenty good enough for your needs.

  3. Yes. On the Pearl last June they were narrow, on the POA next week they are wide. Both fit in the clear luggage tags I ordered from that online "jungle river" store. Since you don't have to fold them for a custom holder you can pretty much trim them any way you want. As long as your deck and cabin number are left showing.

  4. Although I love Panasonic superzooms and own one myself, I need to point out that the model suggested has neither an optical or electronic viewfinder, but only a LCD screen for composing images. I find that when traveling I really appreciate a viewfinder as bright sun can wash out an LCD screen and make it unusable. If this is important to you, Panasonic and all other camera makers do make bridge cameras with viewfinders also. Of course all DSLR's have viewfinders by definition.

  5. In 2012 Alaska had the coldest summer on record. In 2013 it had the warmest summer on record. Fortunately we have the internet! I plan to check the long range forecast the week before I leave in June and pack accordingly. Even then, I understand the weather can change quickly and the glacier viewing is always cold, so take enough layers to manage at either end of the weather spectrum. Enjoy your trip.

  6. The Fujifilm X-S1 is almost identical in weight and size to a DSLR. It has one of the best viewfinders on a point and shoot It has a fixed lens with a range of 24mm to 624mm. . This is much longer than the telephoto on the Sony RX-10. Also the Fuji being discontinued is going for $349 on Amazon versus $1200 for the Sony. Lots of cameras to consider and what has been suggested varies from single fixed focal lenth to superzoom. Think about how you want to use the camera and what lenses you want it to replace and it will help you narrow things down.

  7. I have a Fuji x10 which takes great photos. It is not quite shirt pocket, but close. The XF-1 is very similar and fits in the shirt pocket but has no viewfinder. Both the x10 and the XF-1 are extremely cheap right now as they are being closed out. Both have large 2/3 inch sensor and high quality optics. Worth a look. The X20 beats the G16 in my book as the viewfinder has much useful information in it. Hope this helps.
