  1. My kids are in the group where they love spending time with adults because they can have great conversations with their grandparents and other adults. Yes they do love Adventure Ocean but they are not open 24 hours and the pools are not always stimulating for them.

My daughter would rather enjoy a soda and appetizers with us before dinner, then spend time in the teen club. So you don't speak for everyone.
  2. The problem I have is you are saying that a lounge that is set aside for diamond members who have been loyal to royal that has a special controlled access shouldn't be a place for kids. I don't think that is right. If my child has earned that diamond level and can behave properly he or she should be able to go with me and have a soda with me in the lounge. I personally use this time with my kids to teach them how to be an adult, how to have a conversation how to be a member of society. I'm sorry but I think this is what is wrong with society today. people are not taking the time to teach children what should be expected of them in public and how they should act. So should children be exposed to adult conversations and adult atmospheres 100% yes. Should the parent use there best judgement and remove there child from a situation if the situation becomes to adult YES. I am not bring my children up devoid of adult interaction so they do not know how to deal with the real world. My kids will be well behaved and well rounded.

Its not about them being well behaved. I'm sure, or least hope, people wouldn't have their children running around in the Lounge areas. I also realize that the Cruise ship welcomes families and vacations. However, they also have adult activities that are not for children. I'm sure they don't expect children playing the penny slot machines and enjoying a roll of dice at craps either. Just because its a cruise doesn't mean that children should be everywhere. There are a thousand activities and places on a ship that is all about family and for children. They may have 3 things that are not...casino, adult pool, and some lounges, oh and maybe an adult show....I mean.....
  3. Do the bus, or public transit. They are 2 a person one way. Make sure to ask if they are the public bus. it is so worth it to see the planes. just don't stand in the way of the jet stream. That isn't worth it.

  4. My problem with the automatic tip is the level of service. I find that when the tip is just that a tip the service is better. When the tip is earned and not just expected the service is better. Since they started the automatic tip the service has gone WAY down. I have removed a portion of the tip a few times and given it to others as the services has been bad at times. I tipped my mother's stateroom attendant because she made extra animal towels because she knew my kids stopped by "Nana's" room each night to see what she had. When I handed her the tip she even said "but I am not your attendant." My response was but you made our trip more enjoyable so you get the extra tip. I understand that the staff makes their money from the tips but the company should either raise the rates and raise their salary so the customer doesn't have to worry about it or no mandatory tipping policy. I shouldn't be told I have to tip a curtain amount or it is not a tip it is a charge. So I guess I am not against paying them a fair wage just call it what it is a charge not a tip.

  5. For those in the path of the eclipse (full or partial) DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN.... unless you have approved filters. welding glass works and they have some filters in like paper glasses that are good. if you do not have a filter do not look at the sun. Poke a pin hole in a piece of paper and look at the ground to see the eclipse.

  6. So it depends on what kind of AFT you are talking about. We had the last AFT cabin in the back of the boat. A 2 bedroom family suite. While we did have a vibration I LOVED the balcony. The walk for us wasn't too bad but then again I was chill as we were on the boat for 13 days. LOVE the jewel by the way. Love the side elevators but hated waiting for the aft elevators during busy times. they only have one set in the aft of the boat. ALL GLASS WALL..... AMAZING....... ENJOY. if you have other questions I might be able to answer them about the jewel since we just got back in may.

  7. I'm going on Allure next year and want to purchase the photo package. I booked three rooms. One for me, wife and two boys. Other two rooms, one with my mom and other with my mother in law. Will they allow us to do complete family photos if they are in separate rooms? Or will they say you cannot add people. I remember on our last cruise two years ago when it was just the wife and one boy they scanned my room card. I will be the one purchasing the photo package. All The rooms are covered under my credit card but with their names. Any feedback will be appreciated.

If you are paying for all the rooms what I would do is move the kids in with the grand mothers. That way the staterooms are linked and there is no question. They can still room with you but they would be linked to the other rooms. that way any photo's of just the grandmothers would be included. With the digital ones they sort through them and if you don't have a member in the stateroom they will not include it. The price is well worth it. We have done it 3 times now. We have gotten over 100 pictures on each cruise. take a bunch of pictures. that one a few are bound to be great. I would say out of the 150+ pictures we got on our Dec 2015 cruise we had at least 100 GREAT pictures. The small ships might not have digital packages so be careful. We did a trans-Atlantic on Jewel and they didn't do the digital. We got all the prints for 199 but I don't have them digital. STILL LOVE THEM.

  8. Sorry but for me the kids sail free makes a huge deal. we have 3 kids so normally it costs us 5,000 to go on a cruise. With kids sail free" we end up at 3,000 for a cruise. Depends on how many kids and room.

There is no such thing as "kids sail free." There are several threads and hundreds of posts about how RC's "sales" are nothing more than clever marketing tools. So beyond the fact that what the above posts say is spot on, when you go back and try to add the kids they will tell you you have to start over and presto, the cost for the adults will miraculously have increased by the savings on the alleged kids sailing free.
  9. Oasis has a family balcony that wasn't a suite in 2015. It is a HUGE room. The interior is also HUGE. Otherwise the 2 brdrm suite is a great option. We had the 2 brdrm suite on Jewel for our transatlantic last month and it was wonderful.

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that Oasis is the ship!
  10. My cousin had her wedding on the boat and had about 25 people go on the cruise. We didn't see they until they said hello to us. She was afraid we would bother her on her honeymoon. We all said it is a HUGE boat you will not see us much. unless you want to.

Did you have a group of people go on the cruise with you?

  11. I pull the kids out of school. Can't afford to go when their vacations are so we go during school. Kids are doing great in school so we figure we are giving them a different experience that is still learning. It is very hard to find the sales. We caught one in Sept of this year so we are going but it was not announced so I was just wondering if someone had an inside track or a trick to see when the sales are coming up.

Very hit or miss I've noticed. Also, as with many "sales" you will rarely find them during the summer or popular school vacations. Often the price for the first two is hiked up as well.
  12. We just got back from a transatlantic crossing from San Juan to Rome. the weather going over was great but started to get cold. the last few days it was to cold to swim. I would expect that going from Europe to the Caribbean would be the opposite of what we had so it would be cold then warm. The seas were fine a little bumpy but we had an aft cabin so we felt it more. I want to do a transatlantic coming from Europe back because you gain time where I lost time. All in all I loved it. Very relaxing and wonderful. you will have a great time. make sure if you are in the grand suite to take advantage of the concierge lounge. Very nice and they really do help make the cruise go smoother. Have fun.
