  1. On the Oasis last week, we only had the free lobster tail on the second formal night. It wasn't that great. Our server wanted to bring more but we said no. It was a good size but overcooked and tough, much like their fish througout the week (over cooked). We also had escargot on the same night but it wasn't on the menu and our server told us about it the night before and told us to reminder her to order it. It wasn't that great either, just oily and not much flavor.

  2. I'm getting sicker as the day gets longer. Too much time in front of the computer and reading legal documents. Chewing down a green apple now and I hate green apples. My husband didn't even make it out of bed today. He's still there as of lunch time. Maybe this is a good diet too. I have no appetite either. I need some fresh air and it's 43 degrees now so it warmed up a bit.

  3. Got off a 13 night transatlantic on Independence last Friday. Still having a lot of motion. I usually do get this for about a week after disembarking but this time it's worse. We did have some rough sea days so that might be playing a part in the severity this time.

I tried laying on the bed and hanging my head over but had to stop after 3 minutes as I got really nauseous.

I think I will try the antihistamines next.......

So sorry to hear that. You're in Alberta, must be fairly cold. Try some fresh air. That seems to help a bit. I think I'll hit the drug store and get some antihistaimes (non-drowsy) myself this afternoon.

  4. This is going to sound really dumb but my very first cruise was a 7 day and 6 of the 7 days we were in waves of 30' + seas. When I came off the ship I was fine so long as I was moving but when I would be still it felt just like I was on the ship. After about 2-3 weeks I said something to a friend and they were told to lay on your bed on your back with your shoulders on the edge and your head hanging over the edge. Stay like that for 5-10 minutes. I did it and presto, it balanced the fluids in my ears causing me not to have the motion anymore. It's funny, I have never gotten sea sick, I get land sick!!! I guess that means I need to stay on a ship FOREVER!!!

    Good Luck!

Yesterday afternoon, I thought I was going to totally lose it at work. Had to hold on to a desk while standing in my co-worker's office. On the commuter train ride home (20 mins), I almost lost it but the fresh air outside (40 degrees) help while walking home. I did the hanging head over the bed for 5 mins (couldn't do it any longer). Rested for 3 and hung it over the bed again for another 3 and then fell asleep for 20. Then go up, felt a little better, threw the little ones into bed (lord know what they ended up doing all night), my husband and I crashed at 7:30pm. Feel a little better today, about 50% gone but still swaying a bit. The 28 degree morning COLD air helped a lot walking to the train. My husband got hit this morning. His patch must have worn off. He put it on last Friday and it has a 3 day limit. He got out of bed, showered, then passed out and said he was going to throw up. I told him to hang his head over the bed. Not sure what happened, left him that way since I had to take the kids to school and go to work. My co-worker gave me a bottle of "Bundaberg ginger beer" non-alcholic from Costco. Like really strong gingerale. I put it on ice and like the taste considering I HATE ginger. Have a bottle for my husband to drink tonight. BTW...I hate 2 Halloween snickers last night for dinner, couldn't stomach any food. My co-worker also said she was sick for 4 days after her cruise and had to literally sit on the bedroom floor for hours. I wonder if it was because the Oasis hit some bad storms last week. I didn't have this problem for this long before and I have been on HAL 4x already. Good luck to all those are suffering alongside with me.

Thanks Donna. I will try tonight. I could always do it at my desk, lie across it with my head hanging over the edge but that might freak out my co-workers. This is going to be a LONG day in the office.

  6. I just got off the Oasis this past Saturday, too. The swaying motion always lasts a couple of days for me. Just goes away on it own. I'm suffering from a moderate case of PCB (post cruise blues). I guess I have to book another cruise soon.

BTW, I had a great time on Oasis and can't wait to sail her again :)

Me too. That rain in Cozumel and last day really cut into my zip lining time :)

  7. Off the ship yesterday. We did MTD every night. 2 adults and 2 kids (9/7 YOs). Made reservations 6 weeks in advance for 5:30 dinner. There are 2 lines when you get to the 5th floor MDR. One line w/reservation and the other line w/o. We never waited more than a minute or two. We were seated at the same table with the same server and assistant every night. After the first night, they knew our likes (milk for the kids each night etc). Our server also brought extra food for us that we didn't order and wanted us to try. We stopped that after the 3rd night. Too much food and we ate it since it was there. Excellent service. A few nights we were 15-20 mins late but the table was held for us. One night we had a 7:30 show and we told her (sat down at 5:45) and she made sure we got our food and we were out of there by 7:10. We seem to be in the area with kids. Every other table had kids but that was fine w/us. Funny thing, my sister was on the Oasis 2 months ago (w/2 kids) and she sat in the same area that we sat in.

  8. Just off the ship yesterday with our 9/7 YOs. We had breakfast with Madagascar characters and didn't go to the Kung Foo Panda breakfast. Characters go to certain sections of the ship at certain times. All noted on the Compass. There is also a character parade but we only got the end part of it. The TV showed many dreamwork movies which was fine.

  9. We stayed there last Friday for one night before our cruise. Good choice.

    Costed us $177 w/tax from Hotels.com.

Called hotel when we were waiting for our luggage. 30 mins for the shuttle to arrive. Make sure you take th Hyatt House shuttle, there are other Hyatt shuttles. Driver checks to make sure you're going to the right hotel. Hotel nice, breakfast is good. Lots of choices. Dinner we took a cab to oakwood mall (raining hard). $5.00 cab ride. Ate at Moonlite Diner. Very good. Our second time there and service is fast and shakes are delish. Then walked around the mall (rained stopped). Marshalls, Dollar Store, Kmart, Home Depot etc. Like a regular mall. Walk back to the hotel is up the road, 10 mins. Stirling Road is a busy intersection but there are lights. Hotel room nice, beds comfy but not sofa bed. Could feel the coils. Not comfy at all. Bathroom nice with big shower, no tub.

Kitchen has all the amenities if you wanted to cook but we didn't. There is supposed to be a shuttle to the mall but we missed it by 5 mins. Reception said they would take us there $8pp which is $24 and a rip off so we got a taxi and got there for $5 including tip. That left a bad taste. We were lucky to see a taxi pull up to the Hyatt next door and grabbed it.

  10. came home yesterday off the Oasis. Cleared customs (1 hr) long long line,

outside there are tons of cabs (8:30 am). 2 adults + 2 kids. cost $12.10, gave few dollars extra for tip, at a/p in 15 mins. It was like a mini van. Only 3 seats in the back and I sat in the front. We had 1 med suitcase and 3 smaller roller types. It all fit w/o problem.

  11. Just came home yesterday off the Oasis. Off ship @ 7:30 am walked off with luggage (2 adults and 2 kids). one hour at customs. huge line up.

Left building lots of taxis around. $12.10 to FLL. Few dollars tip and then lined up at Southwest to check our luggage in. We asked the driver how much and he said "meter". Which is what i wanted to hear. If he gives you a flat rate, that is a scam. It is all meter but better to ask in advance to make sure there are no issues when you get to the airport.

  12. Formal night was a mish mosh of everything. My husband wore a dark suit + tie. I wore a black dress + heels. Daughter (9YO) wore black glittery dress and son (7YO) wore button down shirt and khakis. Mostly older gentlemen wore tux. I've seen polo shirts and slacks, tee and slacks, button down shirts (no jackets). Seen it all last week. I would prefer not to dress up and bring the extra heels but husband wants to wear a suit so we go that route. Usually we're dressed for 2 hours, then off to regular clothes to play basketball, ping pong etc.

The other nights are "casual" and seen the mish mosh also. Those nights the kids wore the same type of clothing, my husband in button down shirt + khakis and I wore a dress with heels. Wear whatever makes your comfy and you're willing to carry w/you.

  13. left hotel at 11am with taxi. $20 from Hyatt House (Dania Beach) to port.

15 min ride. check in immediately. no lines. You go to the line according to your floor. Then get wrist bands for kids. Took pix with Fiona from Shrek Movie, get onboard and eating pizza by 12 noon by the pool. Very well organized. We weren't even the early ones. There were plenty of people there before us. Best suggestion from CC was bring your bathing suits. Kids were suited up and in the empty pool by noon. They were having a blast while we hung out. After 2pm when people got their rooms, there were more people in the pool but it was great before when it was empty. One hour from hotel, check in to sitting by the pool.

  14. body still swaying as if I was on the ship but that takes a few days to wear off. here's my account.

breakfast at Windjammer @ 7am. We (2 adults + 2 kids) off ship at 7:30am. we did express, brought out bags with us. The line up at ship customs was insane. Line went round and round and round. About an hour. At the end part, was directed to the USA citizen line which is shorter than the other line with international guests. That was even a longer line. Grab cab to airport. $12.10. Fast ride. Southwest line long too but moved fast. Then printed our boarding pass at the counter and check in 4 bags. My friend at work went online 24 hrs prior to check us in so only needed to print boarding pass and pass over luggage. B35 -38 was our line up. Then the scary part. line up to get to the security line. way down the end of the hall. way way down. Seriously, line up for the line up. then the security guy was calling out those with TSA PRE check on the SW boarding pass gets to go ahead in another line up. 2 of the 4 tickets had this mark on the boarding pass so we moved up. That cut our time too. Otherwise you're stuck in the long long line. Security - no one took off shoes. Security said one time deal....probably because there was a huge amount of people. From time we left our cabin to our boarding gate B2 was a total of almost exactly TWO hours. Our flt was 11:25. Would I have left later...NO. 7:30 departure was my comfort zone not knowing the customs line and SW line and Security line. I've never seen so many people at the customs line before or the airport security line.

  15. Just back from cruise this afternoon. yes, there are lockers but don't know how much and what money it takes. Saw them as I walked by.

We kept our bags on the lounge chair and towels on to of it. Took a chance since we had our driver's license and kids' passport but kept an eye on the bags. we went to the beach that was across from the kid's playground. good sand, no rocks in water, can walk way out, no waves and down the road to the buffet. took free tram here.

  16. Just got back from cruise this afternoon. The closest beach is rocky. We stayed 5 mins and went across the street just pass the kids' water play area and it is a nice beach. water very calm. We stayed there. No water shoes needed which is good since I bought new ones for the kids and forgot them in the cabin. Will return to the store this week. you can take the free tram to the other beach. It was sooooooo hot this past Monday (94 degrees), the sun was hot hot hot. Tram was a good thing. The food area was just down the road also. Basic BBQ food.

  17. Just returned from the cruise this afternoon. Body is still swaying from the motion of the boat. We went and it was fun. We did the Madagastar (sp??) breakfast. We made reservations weeks in advanced but when we showed up at 7:30am, they didn't have us listed. no big deal. the girl just put our name down. It is the main dining room, 3rd floor. Just go even if you don't have a reservation. There wasn't a big crowded. You order off the main breakfast menu (usual stuff) and there is a basket of pastry at the table, there is also a buffet set up so you get both (a la carte and buffet). Character comes out, waiters all sing/dance. There were 3 characters that morning. The host also ask questions and if you get it correct, you win a dreamwork lanyard. We got one. We didn't even go to the second breakfast with Kung Fu Panda. Kids didn't want to get up early. Go if you have kids who are interested even if you don't have a reservation. It isn't that busy. Characters are on the ship doing meet/greet all week anyway so you'll see them around and have a chance to take pix.

  18. I suggest you have a nice breakfast, and go to the terminal. You can drop your luggage as soon as you get there - they will tell you if there will be a delay getting on board.

We had a noro previous cruise, so they did not let us on until 12.

We went directly to the pool deck, not the Windjammer - walked around crowd free, very nice, .one person stayed with hand luggage, then got lunch in the Solarium and took it to our poolside lounge chairs to eat - veryrelaxing afternoon until we could get into our rooms (suite guest was 2 that day not sure of others).

We were travelling with 2kids, they really enjoyed the kiddy pool with out other kids there (they are 7 & 9, have their own pool and swim like fish, so usually do not use the kid pool)

Enjoy, wish I was there - snow flurries here today!!

Sorry about the snow, know how you feel, I'm a Toronto girl living in the Midwest USA. We have 7/9 also. Must remember to pack swim suits in hand bag so they can just drive right in. Thanks.

  19. Seriously, I post, get a cup of tea and there are 4 responses already.

I can always depend on you guys for a quick and fast answer. Flying out tomorrow, putting my ducks in order at work (tons to do) and haven't even packed my clothes yet so tonight will be an all nighter to get ready. I can always sleep tomorrow night at the hotel. Thanks folks !!!

  20. Received email today. Departing Saturday. Planning to leave hotel between 10-11am. Trying to figure out when the hotel shuttle leaves and go before them. Should I ignore this message and go as planned? Not going to rush getting on the ship but will take our time getting up, eating breakfast and just enjoying the "non-rush" of life which we don't get very often (almost never).

"We are contacting you with important information regarding your upcoming sailing on the Oasis of the Seas on November 9, out of Fort Lauderdale. Due to recent government budget reductions, U.S. Customs and Border Protection staffing has been affected, creating a longer immigration processing time for departing guests, and the ship has experienced a later clearance time for arriving guests. Therefore, please do not arrive at the cruise terminal prior to 12:30 p.m. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation, and look forward to welcoming you onboard."
