  1. If you did a search for the Princess Fleet you would have found that the Sun Princess is the oldest of the 17 ships currently sailing. You can't expect her to be in the shape of a ship launched last year. In general, Princess dumps the old ships on the Australian market.

I've sailed on her several times and I have 2 more booked because I'm on the west coast of Australia and prefer sailing out of Fremantle so I don't have the hassle of flying over to the east. The crew do a great job trying to maintain this ship.

Hi Redeye84, how strict are they with the check in times at Fremantle? We are on the 22/10 to Broome and have read that Aloha deck is 3.30pm check in 😣. We would like to get on about lunchtime if possible.

  2. Hi, I'm trying to determine where the smoking sections are for the Ovation of the Seas on the lower decks? I've read that there might be smoking on the walk area/seating on the 5 deck on the starboard side in between areas for the life boats?

There is a YouTube video called "Ovation of the Seas cabin 6682 - the worst cabin on the ship" which is above the area, so it will give you an idea what it looks like.

  3. we are staying at north sydney harbourview hotel....yes it is on the other side of the bay but the rooms are large with views of the harbour...it is near shops....they have a cruise package which includes room, breakfast and a shuttle ride to the pier on the day of your cruise.....it is so much cheaper than staying near the pier

I looked on their website specifically for the cruise package but couldn't find any mention of it.

  4. I've pretty much stayed at all the hotels in walking distance to the terminal - Mariott, Shangri-la, Four seasons, Intercontinental. I've even stayed at your Sir Stamford (I liked it there, it reminded me of old English hotels in London). These are at the pricier end. For a good bang for the buck, we stayed recently at the Rendezvous Sydney Rocks. Good value for money, nice pool and sauna area. Only round the corner from the terminal. Only problem is they don't have a dining room, so no breakfast there (not a problem for us, as we're eating once on board).

We have stayed several times at Rendezvous the Rocks. They used to do breakfast but last time the restaurant was closed for refurbishment. We were sent to the cafe down the road. We are booked again for April but will do our own breakfast in the kitchenette this time. The rooms were a little tired but the location is the drawcard for us. :)

  5. We had exactly the same experience with RCCL, our preferences are the same as yours, and they also moved us from a PR room to OV on Deck 2. We screamed blue murder, we asked if we had to accept an upgrade and they replied no. We then demanded our original room back. They told us they had already allocated it to someone else. We were then put onto a supervisor who eventually rang us back and offered us a balcony cabin which we happily accepted.

Would have loved a balcony but we ended up back in a promenade cabin on deck 6 above the cafe (so 2 decks below our original). We still had a great time but just a stressful start.

  6. Good to know it's still there. Have booked a family cruise in 2018 on Ovation with all rooms close by. Am now going to log into profile and check options as we have chosen a balcony room with a large balcony.

Although the children in insides might hope for an upgrade!

We booked a deck 8 Promenade stateroom on Explorer and set our upgrade preference to: "will accept an upgrade but not to a deck lower than already booked".

12 hrs before we left Perth for Sydney we noticed we had been moved to an Oceanview on deck 2!!!. We had to wait until we boarded to sort it out. An email to RCI post cruise confirmed they concidered it an upgrade but admitted they didn't take notice of our preference. It is now set to NO upgrade.
