I recently took a 5-day two port carnival cruise.  Pretty tame actually.  I've taken others, including short ones, but that was many years ago.   Fun Ship doesn't mean drunken brawls.

I think they are much more energetic than some other lines, but I've never experienced drunk/rowdy on any cruise ship, including Carnival.  I am sure it happens but suspect it is more of an individual malfeasance than an institutional one.    Have you actually experienced a problem like that on a Carnival cruise?

Not experienced any problems on our two RC cruises, but our friends have heard strories about drunken groups on ships creating noise and behaviour problems. I told them I would ask on here.

  2. Hi there all,

planning a Med cruise next year with friends who are new to the cruise world.

They are asking a load of questions, most of which I can answer, but some that I can't. . . . .

Here's the latest . . . . .Are there some cruise lines / ships which have a reputation for badly behaved passengers ?

I think that they mean drunk, rowdy, noisy etc.

We've done 2 cruises with Royal Caribbean, and not seen any problems.

Can anybody answer this question for them and us ?

    Thanks

  3. Hi folks. Will soon be on Harmony, and will be taking a couple of bottles of wine for our cabin.

    BUT

Is there a fridge in the cabin to keep the wine cool. If not I may not bother taking any wine.

Have got the Premium Drinks package so DW will have no problems getting enough wine to keep her happy.

    Thanks

  4. We are looking for a similar type of rental for three couples in Rome prior to our October 2017 Jewel cruise. We are currently searching VRBO mostly. We have already booked a villa in Tuscany for 4 couples post cruise for that same trip through VRBO. It looks beautiful, has great reviews and the owner has been very responsive. That is important to me.

We have also booked an apartment for just us in Barcelona for four nights for this October. It is my first VRBO experience. Our travel companions found the apartment. They have another apartment in the same building with the same owner. My concern there is that the owner had us pay the deposit via credit card, but wants cash for the remainder once we arrive. On retrospect I would have not booked this one for that reason. But, we have also have a tour arranged through them and they have been very responsive and have good reviews, so we are taking our chances and going with them. Hopefully, we will have a good experience to report!

    Hi Sunny AZ.

For our booking (through Flipkey) the owner wanted a 10% deposit by bank transfer or PayPal. Then half of the remainder 2 weeks before arrival. The rest to be paid in cash on arrival. There's also a tourist tax of 3.5 euros per person per night. I'll give you an honest review when I get back, if you can hang on for a few more weeks. :)

  5. hi - just curious - which place are you staying at in Rome? we are also going in middle of September and staying at one called "Spanish Deluxe" close to the Spanish steps, got it thru VRBO.

Hi there, yes I believe they're the ones we've booked for 12th - 15th September. (Hope yours are different dates :)) The apartments look very nice. Hope you have a great stay and a lovely cruise.

  6. 8 of us boarding Harmony at Civitavecchia around 11:30 in a few weeks time.

Given that there may be 8 different ideas on what to do first I'd appreciate any suggestions from previous group trips.

Tour the ship / beef sandwiches / find a bar / grab some sunbeds near the pool. Or maybe put all the suggestions into a hat and draw one out :)

    What did others do ?

  7. I know is has been a while since your post, but could you tell me how you liked the 4-bedroom apartment? I am looking for a 4-bedroom myself and there are not a lot of options.

    Thank you! Andrea

Hi Andrea. We don't go till the middle of September. However the apartments look great. They're 50 yds from the Spanish steps, each bedroom is en-suite . and there's an extra room with a sofa bed, so I guess it can be a 5 bed apartment. The lady who I've been in touch with has been very good and has arranged the transfer from the airport. I can send send you a link to the apartments if you wish.

  8. Hello there.

You can download the app at home, but Royal iQ only works when connected to the ship's Wi-Fi network. Once at the pier or onboard, connect to "royal-wifi" and register by entering your name as it appears on your SetSail Pass or SeaPass card, and a few other pieces of info. We recommend the device is placed on airplane mode to avoid incurring roaming charges.

To utilize the calling and texting functions, the Royal iQ communication package must be purchased. After purchasing a package, you can make calls and send texts to other devices with a purchased package onboard the ship from within the app. Each guest has a unique extension in Royal iQ and to communicate with others using the app, you'll need the other person's extension. This can be found in the Communication Menu of Royal iQ.

    We hope this info helps!

Thanks for the great reply. Told me everything I need to know.

  9. As there's 8 of us using Royal IQ for calling or texting each other sounds like a good idea. And good for $8

Do we download the app now and then it becomes live when we get on board. Or should we wait till we're on board and then download it ?

Does anyone know what we do to get the unique number for receiving calls or texts from each other.

It'll make it easier for getting in touch when we get back from excursions.

    Thanks

  10. You will not receive luggage tags, unless you or your TA pay extra for them. (or unless it is totally different in the UK)

You print them yourself when docs are issued, which happens at 49 days pre-cruise.

I can sign waivers now for a cruise in December. Check your Cruise Planner in My Cruises under Activities to see if you can, too.

    Thanks

  11. Party of 8 sailing on Harmony in September. We've all done the online check in, added Credit card details, uploaded photos etc.

I read somewhere that we can sign waivers online for all the life threatening dangerous things that are on offer. I know we'll receive luggage tags. Excursions, shows and meals are booked.

So, fellow cruisers, what's next ?

    Thanks

  12. UPDATE! Reporting back as promised!

Called to ask about overbooking. Was told that they were only overbooked on a few sailings out of Barcelona - and not on any of the sailings out of Rome. So we were not able to get an offer.

Then, today, went to RCI website and saw that cabins were available on our sailing - including one we had wanted for an upgrade option.

Good news: There are now some cabins available on a few of the sailings. So something must have improved/shifted/been updated, etc. There were a few suites available as well.

Bad news: We upgraded to one of the suites! Bad news for my wallet; and bad news for the available inventory!

But there are, indeed, a few cabins now available on our sailing (Sept 15 out of Rome) and for the week before our sailing. :(:):p

We're also on the Sept 15th out of Rome (Civitavecchia). Nice to know that there will possibly be a little bit of space. :D

  13. Don't know if this has been mentioned before but I've heard that due to a computer error, RCI has overbooked all the Harmony sailings for August and September. They're now contacting people who haven't paid their balance and asking them if they're willing to be bumped.

Or maybe it's all a rumour, but on our sailing all the staterooms are suddenly showing as Sold Out

  14. The major production shows (Grease, etc.) remain for about 5 years per ship. Not sure about the aqua theater / ice show performers but I think they are couple of months or more - maybe someone can confirm. The headliners can be a week or so and often come or go at certain ports of call depending on their commitment.

That makes sense although I'd have though that the Aqua / Ice performers may have lasted the duration of the cruise itinerary. Lot of rehearsing required for those shows.

  15. Hi there, Just wondering.

How often does the entertainment change on Cruises.

I know that some shows and entertainers are the same for the season, (Grease, Ice shows, Aqua show etc), but how often do others change?

For instance the comedians, and the Headline acts. Are they on a rota and swap around every couple of weeks or so. :)

  16. Hello fellow cruisers,

Just wondering if anyone has uploaded any pics of the Harmony cruise compasses.

If not, is anyone out there kind enough to post some.

It would be nice to see what's happening, and when.

Wife and some of our group are only getting off at Barcelona, (we board at Civitavecchia), so they'd love to see what's going on during the daytime.

    Thanks in advance.

  17. That seems extreme. Pick a taxi up at the airport?

I think some transfer companies just set out a standard fee for transfer to your Rome hotel from the airport. Did you tell them which hotel it is. If it stays at that price a taxi should be cheaper.
