  1. Hi everyone..We are staying 3 days pre cruise in fort lauderdale in March before we board crown princess for 10 days around southern caribbean...Having stayed at Pier 66 last time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in 1 of the tower rooms we have read the tower is closed due to hurricane damage in 2017 which is a real shame...anyone know what renovation work is in progress at the minute?.We have decided to stay at a different hotel this time maybe on 17th street...Not sure which hotels are nice and what's nearby...we have a few things we want to do during our 3 days..everglades,water taxi to see the beautiful homes..maybe a shopping mall or 2 lol..any help will be greatly apreciated.

  2. We are looking at cruising southern caribbean next march and want to visit ABC islands. The itineraries found only visit 2 out of the 3. As both itineraries are different not sure which one to choose so which one should we give a miss to.we have done Eastern side and liked most of the islands so want to go further south..Thank you

  4. Fantastic! What did you choose for post cruise? Would love to hear your thoughts on that when you are done!

    Happy Cruising

Post cruise we went for The Savoy on ocean drive just off 5th street.

Great location for the beach and just a few minutes walk to the lively restaurants on ocean drive.

Not really to our liking and I doubt we will stay on ocean drive again,it was very busy with teens and young 20 somethings driving in very expensive cars and revving engines every 2mins.

  5. We are from UK and have just returned from our cruise from FLL.

We stayed 2nts at hyatt regency pier 66 literally a 5 min drive from the cruise terminal and I can't praise that hotel enough...Fab location, views from the tower bedrooms were amazing and there was a restaurant called Pelican Landing on site that did the best fish tacos we have ever had. They also have a free shuttle to and from the beach....we will definitely stay again

  6. We have just reurned from our cruise we had 2 nts pre cruise at hyatt regency pier 66 and 2nts post cruise at The Savoy on ocean drive miami.

Hyatt 66 was our favourite, purely for location,Pelican Landing for the best fish tacos ever!!!

The savoy was on the beach on the quieter part of ocean drive and within walking distance of all of the restaurants etc....Our personal opinion on ocean drive is it was too busy for our liking, with lots of flash cars with drivers revving engines every 2mins not really a place we would visit again tbh.

  7. So glad we went with Hyatt 66 we checked in yesterday and omg we are blown away by this hotel location is just perfect for us and the views from our 15th floor room are amazing! We also went to pelican landing last night and had the fish tacos they are a must for anyone visiting might even go again tonite 😊

If you can still get the good deal on Hyatt Pier 66 I would take that one. I just ran a faux booking for late May and didn't have any problems.
  8. We are wanting to do a airboat ride on the everglades we are staying 2nts pre cruise in fort Lauderdale, then 2 nts post cruise in Miami...where would be best to pick up the everglades trip pre or post cruise?any tips thanks

We went for hyatt 66 pre cruise as you recommended ;) now we have post cruise to sort out we are now thinking maybe a beach hotel....do you know anything about Sonesta? it looks very nice with great views etc but what's around it to do? We quite fancy a beach hotel now so if this is no good where else would you recommend  Thank you

  10. We are thinking of doing the hover boat road on the everglades during our 2 days post cruise...is it easy to book ourselves or should we add to post cruise excursion? As we are not having a car ....... Has anyone done it?

After reading more in depth about fort lauderdale we have decided our 3 days 2 nts will be spent in this area...No hotel booked yet looks like DH now wants a beach....we have hyatt 66 pre cruise so really looking forward to that.

  11. It's just under 1 1/2 miles, up and over the Causeway.

You can't miss Spielberg's yacht moored right in front of the Hyatt Pier 66 Marina office and Pelican Landing. It's the biggest duck on the pond. In fact, you can walk right up to it and marvel at all 282 feet. It's for sale if you would like to buy it because he wants a bigger one.

WOW hope it's still there when we get there might put in an offer for it ;)

  12. Having now finalised our accommodation it time to plan in how we get from MIA to 17th st FLL

It looks like uber is working out the cheapest option but I have no idea how it works:confused:

Can i book a pick up in advance and how do I know where to go once we clear customs?

  13. We've been to Pelican Landing a few times for dinner and drinks and always enjoyed it. It's a nice walk to get there through the marina past Spielberg's yacht. We loved bring on the water watching host traffic.

I also wasn't sure about walking the first time to Harbor Shops & Total Wine, but tried it and have walked it dozens of times now. The roads are busy, but there's crosswalks with timers at every intersection and I never felt unsafe. You'll see lots of people walking, jogging and a few bikers. I've taken Uber back to the hotel after shopping or getting nails done and it's $5 and super easy.

We've been to Shooter's on the waterway and had great food and service!! I believe they have music on certain days too.

How long did it take you to walk to the harbor shops? It does look a nice walk.... also Spielbergs yacht? Is this easy to identify lol DH would love to see that.

  15. Trying to decide which hotel is best between the Hyatt and Embassy Suites, both on 17th. Hyatt seems closer to the ship channel for spotting cruise ships coming and going, but Embassy seems to have more around it as far as restaurants and night life?

any suggestions? How far is Embassy from Hyatt? Can you see the ship channel from Embassy and if not how far is the walk? We are coming from Dallas and won't have a rental car. We are sailing on Princess and not sure which ones they have hotel and shuttle package to and from, but want to be prepared before I call them to see what they have to offer too. thanks

Looks like you have the same dilemma we had..in the end we booked Hyatt 66 after weeks on searching where to stay. We made our decison purely for the location, we booked a tower high room and are looking forward to our stay,...what are your dates in March? We are cruising on Royal princess on 10th March.

  16. Edit: Dang! Now I see this is the day pre-cruise. I say stay at the Hampton Inn pre-cruise.

OK...So I went back and re-read your other thread about your stay and I presume you are talking about the two days post cruise. The wild card in your situation is you are flying back to the UK from MIA, so the Hampton Inn Plantation airport shuttle does not do you much good unless you go from Port Everglades after your cruise to FLL and then call the Hampton Inn for their shuttle. A little cumbersome, but it would save about $40 or so in taxi fare. Uber from PE would probably be about $30 directly to the Hampton Inn Plantation.

If you rent a car, your hotel location is not that important other than hotels in the 17th Street area will charge for parking. Since you don't want to rent a car then your choice of hotel is key to what you want to do. So...

What are your top priorities post cruise?

We are arriving 2 days before cruise and staying 2 nts after too and not sure what we want to do either side......I think sawgrass is a bit too far and I don't want to spend all day shopping can't put my DH through that :D we have decided to stay 2nts pre in 17th st area but still have 2 nts post to book somewhere DH quite fancies a beach now

  17. I have also asked this question as we are interested in travelling from Embassy Suites to Sawgrass Mills.

Suggestions I received included Uber or Lyft but I do not feel confident to use either.

Shuttle services seem difficult to track down.

    What are your dates .?

Mmm I think judging by the distance away we might forget about sawgrass as it's a bit far tbh

We are in there 8th march

  18. If shopping is important :D .......

Getting to Sawgrass Mall by public transport is possible, but takes about 90 minutes each way. The Mall itself is huge and really needs more than 1 day to cover it.

As an alternative try Galleria Mall on East Sunrise Blvd, Fort Lauderdale. It has many stores including a Macey's (which gives an extra 10% discount on production of your passport on most items). Otherwise there is a good T.J. Maxx in the Harbour Shops near Embassy Suites.

If you are flying back to UK from MIA with BA or Virgin and have an evening flight, then consider parking your luggage at MIA airport and taking the shuttle to Dolphin Mall, which is also an outlet mall though nowhere near as large as Sawgrass Mall.

Thank you for the heads jp re Dolphin Mall...we are flying virgin back to the uk from miami so might look at that one instead before our return.

  19. We have a day spare pre cruise and are looking to visit Sawgrass Mall we don't really want to hire a car and was wondering how we could get there from 17th street area and what the costs are likely to be......

  20. Why? Some people dislike sand and beaches.

My mom loves the ocean but hates spending any time on a beach . Me, I'm Meh either way.. I don't hate the beach , don't love it either ( unless it's HMC )
