  1. We had a suite last cruise and took our butler with us home as a souvenir. We did not make it past customs, they were pretty upset with us. We did return him though, grudgingly

Were too chicken to try, although our kids did raise quite an argument to the benefits of doing so. I think our butler, Maurice, from the Gem would have fit nicely in a suitcase!

  2. Can you do a cabin crawl in the havens?????

If someone in the Haven wishes to show their cabin as part of the Cabin crawl, then you should have no issue. I was on the 5/10 sailing on the Gem and met some new friends, and had no issue taking them on a tour of our room and the Haven facilities. We were quick and courteous to other passengers. As long as people remember it is a tour, not a party! 😃

  3. This is a copy of a list that the pre cruise concierge sent to me before my cruise... I called and was told to give about a weeks notice. Hope it helps.

  4. To answer the original question...I am now getting ready to dock after a FABULOUS week on he GEM. This is our first cruise ever, so we had no latitudes status before our trip. We stayed in a 2 bedroom family Haven Villa and received a gold wrapped tiny chocolate on each pillow each night at turn down!

  5. I was in this very same situation, only my trip is a little closer...I leave THIS SATURDAY! We had booked a 2-BR suite (SC) on the Gem for $5600 +/- then we took the plunge and upgraded to the Haven so that went up. But looking back after we made our final payment and the start of the Kids Sail Free Promo, that would have dropped out price $1200 bringing the would-be total down to $4400. If I had to do it all over again, I would do the same thing. Book early and keep an eye out for promos. But be aware that there are A LOT of blacked out dates for the KSF promo. Just figure that every week that the kids are not scheduled to be in school is blacked out, including all summer, and all school breaks and holidays.

  6. Booked the "Gem"… leave a in 7 days. Am totally unfamiliar with NCL so will be reading every link about it here on CC as fast as I can!

So what does a newbie need to know about NCL? (Have cruised numerous times on HAL and RCCL) thanks!

So that puts you on the Gem leaving the 10th for the Bahamas. That is our cruise too! Be sure to join the roll call and sign up for the meet and greet if you want to. We will be having a gift exchange (just a small $10 Max gift to exchange with a fellow cruising family the represents where you are from as an ice breaker) and a slot pull where we all throw $5 into the pot and rotate spins on a machine and hope we hit it big! There is a lot to learn on CC. You will find a lot of people who want to help, so ask away! Don't be discouraged by the negative people. This will be my family's first ever cruise, so we had a lot to learn, but after months of reading on here, I feel like an expert without ever having set foot on a ship. We'll see how my research pays off in a week! If you have any specific things you want to ask about, I have seen a lot of Q&A, you can ask here, maybe I can help!

  7. I don't see it as a cost savings, many of the people I saw eating the night I was there had 4+ tails! It was packed and the servers kept bring out big trays of tails and passing them on to the crowd.

I would imagine it is purely a logistical move by NCL. All of the passengers, most of whom are looking to fill up on lobster, with the wait staff bringing 1-2 tails at a time and you are still going to have people wanting their 4+ tails. That slows service way down. You will have people waiting for hours for dinner because service is so backed up, even if the tails are all cooked they'd have to wait for the wait staff. With it on the buffet, it's self serve, as soon as tails are cooked, go get them yourself! In and out...gridlock averted!

  8. Yeah, it's kind of my way of saying "this has been asked and answered a million times already" without being rude

The only thing more prolific than threads on tipping, cruise line comparisons, UBP, bacon, maple syrup, etc...is the constant reminder that there is a search feature and the snarky comments from CC 'lifers'. They seem to be on EVERY post. The act is getting old, and WAY more annoying than seeing a repeat thread that can be left unopened if you are not interested. BTW...you failed at the "without being rude" part. Let's move on....

  9. I think people know how to use the search. I do, and I still ask questions. The reason being that there are many people who use this site. Every person has their own opinions and experiences. Someone, who may not have visited CC for a month or so or just missed a thread on a topic previously discussed may see mine and have a different opinion or insight into what I am asking. What I am not looking for (and I'll bet I'm speaking for a lot of others) is a four page thread of people telling me to search it, or brow beating me because a hot button topic was raised. If you are sick of seeing a topic, don't open it. If you don't want to add useful info, don't comment.

  10. I'm sure every topic that could be discussed concerning cruises has been discussed at one time or another. I think it's better to block the people who get offended by someone asking a question and make people feel like crap for asking a question. I see no need for the threads to get out of hand, and it is because people have no tolerance. It seems like every thread has someone chiming in to go search rather than ask a question. Experiences change all the time, so do opinions. If you don't want to be a productive part of a conversation, I believe that you simply shouldn't comment on them...that is how they get out of hand!

  11. I am trying to understand … On my last vacation that I paid thousands for --- NO UPSELL. So I did not have the right to use the pool, hot tub or enjoy any serenity because young children overran the Haven – including ones in diapers in need of floaters (lol)? Please make me understand why I am not entitled to use the facilities. I cannot like most get splashed in eyes because of contacts. Now change it around --- What if I needed adult diapers and you found me wading in the children’s pool? Even without the diapers – would you care? There are so many children’s swimming areas on the ships … Way more than adults. Sorry for continuing this but I am just curious what the parents think us adults should do when the overly large :) Haven pools are consumed with kids. Consumed seems like an overkill but put three kids in there and they are useless.

Kids are not monsters and they don't bite. I'm sure if someone asked to use the pool/hot tub, they would have no issue surrendering it for a while. If you are waiting or have noticed someone monopolizing any facility, just ask. None of the facilities in the courtyards are private and it is unrealistic to expect them to be. I am only 38 but if my 13 year old is hanging with his friends in a hot tub, and Dad(or any other "old" person) steps in, I'm sure they will find a cooler spot to hang out.
